Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

"What on earth are those creatures?"

"Did they eliminate everyone else?"

"I can't possibly die today," Kyle thought to himself as he dashed down the corridor leading to the bunker at its far end.

After a few moments, Kyle reached the end of the hallway and attempted to open the heavy steel door of the bunker, but it was secured.

"Oh no, why is it locked?"

He exclaimed, pulling down on the long handle with all his strength.

Suddenly, every light bulb in the corridor began to burst one by one, prompting Kyle to glance back toward the opposite end, where the grip of fear tightened around him once more.

At the far end of the corridor stood a towering creature, too tall for the space, forcing it to stoop low to move forward.

"Your time has come; your life will be taken," the elongated creature proclaimed as it began to approach Kyle.

In response, Kyle exerted every ounce of his strength, pressing down hard on the handle and kicking at the door with urgency as the creature drew near.

"You cannot escape us," the creature warned as it quickened its pace toward him.

"Ahhhhhhh!"

Kyle screamed, pushing down on the handle with all his might.

**Clack**

At last, the handle released, and Kyle bolted into the bunker, quickly shutting the door behind him before the creature could reach him.

**Panting heavily**

Kyle leaned against the door, finally able to catch his breath, collapsing to his knees as he gasped for air.

"What are those beings?" he murmured to himself while trying to recover.

"Kyle, is that you?"

A male voice called out from behind him.

Instinctively, Kyle turned around but struggled to see who had spoken due to the dim lighting.

"Who's there?"

Kyle shouted, fear evident in his voice, uncertain if the voice belonged to one of the terrifying creatures.

Suddenly, the lights flickered on, and the sight before him left Kyle in disbelief.

Before him were his fellow orphans, the few who had survived, their faces etched with worry and fear. Only about 15 out of the original 100 were present in the bunker.

"How... how did you survive?"

A young man asked, astonishment evident in his eyes as he stared intently at Kyle.

Kyle was at a loss for words; his mind was consumed with thoughts of what to do next and how to find a way out of the bunker.

"Where is Mr. Albert?" Kyle inquired of the small group in the room, but their faces immediately shifted when he posed the question.

He quickly realized that Mr. Albert had been killed by those creatures. Understanding the change in their demeanor, he pulled a bed from the corner and positioned it to reinforce the door.

"We need to figure out how to escape from here," Kyle told them.

"Just like always, you're being foolish. If there were a way to leave, wouldn't we have already taken it?" a girl shouted from her spot.

"I'm curious how he managed to survive those things with such stupidity," another girl chimed in support.

Seething with anger and frustration, Kyle retorted, "Enough with your nonsense! This isn't the time for you to act as if you're in charge. You can choose to stay here and die easily, or you can try to find a way to escape—even if it means risking your life."

They were taken aback by Kyle's outburst, feeling threatened; it was the first time he had spoken to them that way.

Gradually, they came to realize that Kyle made a valid point. To escape and stay alive, they had to set aside their differences.

"So, what's the plan? What do you suggest we do?" a guy stepped forward to ask Kyle.

"While I was gone, did any of you notice if they had any weaknesses, something that could hold them back for a moment?" Kyle inquired.

"No, nothing like that," one responded. "I didn't see anything," another added. "I was too scared to pay attention, sorry," someone else admitted.

Overall, no one had observed anything that could assist them.

"Okay, how many of those creatures are there in total?" Kyle asked again.

"It started with one that attacked us in the garden. Then two showed up in the dressing room, followed by two more in the cafeteria, making it five altogether," another boy answered Kyle.

"Looks like we'll have to fight them off. We can make weapons from what's around us," Kyle concluded, realizing they had no other choice.

The orphanage group was stunned by Kyle's final suggestion.

"I told you, he's always been an idiot. He wants to get us killed; I refuse to go with him," the girl who initially mocked him spoke up again, opposing Kyle.

Kyle remained silent for a moment before moving to a corner, where he took a wooden bed leg, broke it, and sharpened one end to use as a weapon for stabbing.

While the others remained perplexed and silent, he accomplished all of this without making a sound.

Kyle collected several pieces of wood and arranged them side by side to create a makeshift shield. He then tore strips from his clothing, using them to securely bind the wood together.

"As I mentioned, it's your decision whether to stay here and meet your end," Kyle remarked, turning slightly to glance back at the others while facing the door.

Seeing the seriousness and resolve in Kyle's demeanor, they grasped that he was sincere, prompting them to take action and begin fashioning their own weapons.

After a few minutes, each of them had crafted their own armament and felt prepared to exit the bunker, but the atmosphere shifted dramatically in an instant.

Fear gripped them once more, causing their bodies to shake.

From the shadows emerged a massive humanoid figure with horns adorning its head. This creature appeared larger and more menacing than the others, exuding an aura akin to that of a monstrous boss.

"It's disappointing that such beings found life so difficult to extract," the newly emerged entity remarked.

Suddenly, it charged at some of the individuals in the bunker, obliterating them in an instant, tearing them to pieces.

"Run!!!" Kyle shouted urgently as he flung open the door.

They all bolted down the corridor, while the horned creature observed them.

"Fools," the horned entity muttered.
