Even after a couple of months Delia was still clinging to me despite seeming to have gone back to her normal self in every other way. It was in this clingy state one evening that she was lying on top of me on the couch by the fire.
"Don't you find me uncomfortable in the state that I am now?" I asked as she rested her head on my shoulder.
"Not at all" she said "to me you are the most comfortable thing in the world"
I chuckled "so that's why you keep pinning my arm when we're in bed"
she moved closer under my chin
"how do you do it?" She asked "what you can do now I mean"
"You mean how I can do near enough whatever I want?" I replied
"Yes"
"I don't quite know, you know" I said "it's strange, it's like I wish for something to be something other than what it is, and it is"
"Like transmutation?" She said
"Sort of, but not. Transmutation only allows for one material to be turned into another" I picked up a fake rose out of the vase on the table and turned it to quartz glass "like so… it can't however…" I turned the glass rose into a live snake "turn one substance into multiple and certainly not into a living thing" I allowed the snake to shrink in size before slithering around her wrist and turning to solid gold "and if it is transmutation then it would require a huge amount of energy, of which I, as I am now can sense, but there is none. It just happens…"
"Can't you change yourself back?" Delia asked.
"No. Believe me I tried. I can't use my power on myself, I can't see what I used to look like, and I can't read or hear my original name… but you already know this so why did you ask?"
"No reason in particular" she muttered softly.
"You can tell me you know…"
"Um… Well in a couple of years I'll be past my best years for child bearing…"
"Oh… and as I am now we can't exactly…"
"Yeah…"
"I'm sure we'll find a way…"
A few days after this interaction I began trying to find a way to… well have children with my wife.
