Chapter 1 - Prologue

Two decades had passed after the Second Great War and the railway construction project by the United Alliance of Countries (UAC) connecting the Lightning and Fire countries was now complete. Artisan engineers helped install electric street lights and telegraph lines in the Lightning, Fire, and Earth countries. Most of the architecture in the UAC now comprised brick and concrete structures in lieu of the traditional wooden buildings. The Artisan country not only shared its advanced technology with the UAC but also helped to abolish the strict class systems that had existed in those countries.

In Denki city–the Lightning capital, Sage Kazuo's children; Shiori and Kazuto were now eighteen and sixteen, with the oldest being a member of the Battalion Corp and the youngest was about to graduate from Kazutaka Ninja University (KNU). Being the country's leader, Chancellor of the university and also the head of the UAC board meant that Kazuo rarely spent much time with his family. His wife, Mikoto, was now the Head of the Battalion Corp and also a part-time lecturer at KNU. Having the strongest kunoichi as their mother meant that Shiori and Kazuto got the best training when their father was busy with work.

Professor Hideo Yamazaki, the Vice Chancellor of KNU together with Sage Kazuo, had opened the university for students from other countries in the UAC. This venture not only strengthened relations between the countries but also their united fighting force. The Lightning country had scheduled a summit meeting between the Artisan, Lightning, Fire, and Earth countries a day after the graduation ceremony. Droves of people came to attend the graduation, filling the extended university grounds to the brim. Graduating with the overall best results across all faculties was none other than the Sage's son, Kazuto.

In the twenty years of mostly peace, there was still a looming danger of another attack by the Shadows, and it was the major topic of discussion at the summit. Kagami's reach extended to the Water to the Grass and Rice colonies surrounding the Earth and Fire countries. The threat of the Shadow Empire taking power over the entire nation of Nihon was slowly becoming a reality.
