Chapter 10 - Chapter 9

[My dearest, it's amusing to think I've deceived you once again! I can only imagine the look on your face right now, though sadly, I can no longer see it. I never meant to deceive you, but I had no choice. I know you'd go to any lengths to keep me alive, but if I had a choice, I'd rather die as a human. Jeff should have told you everything by now! His words may be harsh, but you don't need to listen to them. This was my decision alone. Let me tell you a little secretthis isn't the first time I've met you. In my past life, I met you too, though we weren't as close. It wasn't until after the apocalypse that I encountered you again. Even though you had fully transformed into a monster, unable to recognize me or me you, you still protected me. So, in this life, I'm here to repay that debt. Perhaps we'll meet again in another time, so don't be sad. But this time, I have one requestplease protect humanity for me, okay? They're so fragile. I've got to leave for a while, but during my absence, everything will be in your hands, my strategist. If there's a chance to start over, I want to meet you sooner, much sooner. Goodbye, my love. Don't miss me. ]

I stared at the thin piece of paper, reading it over and over again. The salty taste of tears spread in my mouth. You were too cruel, Mona, to leave me here all alone.

I was happy knowing that she had loved me all along, but it was precisely that love that led to her death. If there is a next time, Mona, I hope you don't fall in love with me. If our meeting is destined to bring you harm, then I'd rather we never knew each other.

The sky was covered in dark clouds, blocking out the sun entirely, as if the earth had become a closed space. It was going to rain soon.

I didn't notice when Jeff left. I just sat there, hugging Mona's tombstone, motionless.

The sound of thunder rumbled in the distance, deafening, as heavy raindrops began to fall. Blood, mingling with the rain, seeped from my body and soaked into the ground.

"Mona, wait for me, okay? I'll be there soon. . . I. . . I'll be there. . . soon. . . "
