Chapter 163 - the third floor(3)

The cavern echoed with the growls of the remaining forty hellhounds as they closed in on the group. Everyone stood in defensive stances, their breaths ragged but their resolve unbroken. Dakota's flames flickered violently as he eyed the pack.

Dakota:

"We're running out of time. If we don't finish this now, we're done for."

Henry stepped forward, his eyes glowing with intensity as the flames surrounding him burned brighter. He gripped his sword with both hands, his voice calm but filled with determination.

Henry:

"Then let's stop playing around. Watch this."

Henry raised his blade high, and the air around him shifted. His flames condensed at the tip of his sword, forming a swirling sphere of pure mana and fire. Sparks of energy crackled through the cavern as the pressure built, making it hard to breathe.

Liam:

"What the hell is he doing?"

Dakota, recognizing the technique, smirked faintly.

Dakota:

"Gathering mana. Get ready for a light show."

With a shout, Henry swung his blade downward, unleashing the stored mana in a single, devastating wave of fire. The ground trembled as the fiery arc swept through the battlefield, engulfing ten hellhounds in an inferno. Their howls of pain echoed briefly before they were reduced to ash.

Henry exhaled heavily, lowering his sword as his flames dimmed.

Henry:

"Ten down. Who's next?"

Ava grinned, the flames around her roaring to life.

Ava:

"Not bad, Henry. But don't hog all the fun."

Dakota's hand raised toward the hellhounds. His voice was low and commanding.

Dakota:

"You wanted a fight? Let's see how you handle this."

From the hand, tendrils of fiery magic erupted, each one snaking through the air with precise movements. The magic coalesced into a series of burning spears, each aimed directly at a hellhound.

Dakota clenched his fist, and the spears launched forward with incredible speed. The hellhounds barely had time to react before the fiery projectiles pierced through them, reducing ten more to smoldering remains.

Dakota closed his hand, a satisfied smirk on his face.

Dakota:

"That's twenty down. Don't fall behind, guys."

Ava stepped up next, her flames growing wilder and more chaotic. She held her hands out, and a vortex of fire began to form around her. The swirling inferno grew larger with each passing second, the heat making even her allies step back.

Ava:

"You all might want to move. This is going to get messy."

She thrust her hands forward, sending the firestorm barreling toward the hellhounds. The flames roared as they consumed another ten, the creatures' pained screams drowned out by the crackling of fire.

Ava turned back to the group, a smug expression on her face.

Ava:

"That's thirty. Who's next?"

Lucas, his icy transformation still active, stepped forward with an uncharacteristically determined expression. He slammed his hands onto the ground, sending a wave of frost through the cavern.

Lucas:

"Let's cool things down a bit."

From the frost, massive spikes of ice shot upward, impaling five hellhounds instantly. The remaining ones near him slipped and stumbled on the frozen terrain, making them easy targets for his next attack.

Lucas summoned a flurry of sharp icicles, launching them at the disoriented creatures. Five more fell, their bodies encased in ice before shattering into pieces.

Lucas:

"That's ten more. Looks like we're almost done."

Liam and Jack's Lightning Strike

Liam and Jack exchanged a quick nod, their bodies crackling with electricity.

Liam:

"Let's take them together."

Jack:

"You read my mind."

The two brothers raised their hands to the sky, their lightning merging into a single, massive bolt. The energy pulsated through the cavern, the air humming with raw power.

Liam and Jack unleashed the bolt, aiming it at the remaining hellhounds. The lightning struck with a deafening crack, leaving behind nothing but scorched ground and the faint smell of ozone.

Liam smirked, brushing some stray sparks off his arm.

Liam:

"Well, that was shocking."

Jack rolled his eyes.

Jack:

"Really? A pun? Now?"

The final two hellhounds snarled, their glowing red eyes filled with rage as they lunged toward Mia and Luna.

Mia raised her hands, summoning a swirling vortex of water. Luna mirrored her movements, and the two combined their magic into a massive tidal wave.

Mia:

"Let's finish this, Luna!"

Luna:

"Right behind you!"

The tidal wave crashed down on the hellhounds, sweeping them away and slamming them into the cavern walls. The force of the water left no trace of the creatures, the room falling silent as the wave receded.

Mia and Luna high-fived, their faces flushed with exhaustion but triumphant.

Mia:

"And that's game."

Luna:

"Nice work, everyone."

The group stood in the center of the cavern, surrounded by the remnants of the hellhounds. The air was thick with the smell of smoke and burnt fur, but for the first time since entering the cave, there was a sense of calm.

Dakota lowered his weapon, his flames flickering out as he took a deep breath.

Dakota:

"Good job, everyone. That was… intense."

Henry sheathed his sword, a grin on his face despite the exhaustion in his eyes.

Henry:

"Not bad for a day's work, huh?"

Ava stretched, her flames dissipating as she let out a tired laugh.

Ava:

"I could do without the fifty-to-one odds next time."

Lucas leaned against an icy pillar, his breath visible in the cold air.

Lucas:

"We made it, though. That's what matters."

Liam looked around at the group, his usual confidence returning.

Liam:

"We're still standing. Guess that makes us stronger than we thought."

Jack smirked, nudging Liam with his elbow.

Jack:

"Speak for yourself. I'm about ready for a nap."

Amelia, her light magic fading, stepped forward to heal some of the minor injuries among the group.

Amelia:

"Let's not forget—we still have a lot more to face. This was just one battle."

Mia and Luna nodded in agreement, their water magic calming the heated cavern.

Mia:

"She's right. We can't let our guard down."

Luna:

"Let's regroup and figure out our next move."
