Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Playing Dumb

When the gold was stolen, it was still behind the counter, and it hadn't passed through Logan's hands. If it was lost, the bank would be held accountable, and he would still receive compensation for the 60 kilograms of gold bars.

If Logan managed to store the gold the robbers had taken into his space, it wouldn't matter if the robbers escaped or not—the loss would be on them.

Logan would then have 120 kilograms of gold.

Duplicating it would give him a total of 240 kilograms!

That's double the gold he originally planned to use to upgrade the cornucopia.

Fortune favors the bold.

As long as these five robbers were safe, Logan was safe too.

At that moment, Logan was sitting in the back of the SUV, close to the suitcase with the three robbers.

But bending over to touch the suitcase would be too obvious; he needed to wait for the right moment.

The robber driving the SUV was skilled, weaving through traffic at about 80 kilometers per hour, narrowly avoiding other vehicles and gradually losing the pursuing police cars.

But soon, the robbers noticed two helicopters hovering above them.

Logan heard the close-cropped man curse in an international language.

It wasn't long before a roadblock appeared ahead.

A row of sharp spikes had been laid out, and even an SUV couldn't break through it.

A group of SWAT officers stood ready behind the roadblock.

The piercing sound of the SUV's brakes echoed as everyone inside was thrown forward.

Logan's eyes flashed.

This was the moment!

As everyone's bodies were thrown off balance, with their attention focused on the roadblock and the SWAT team ahead, Logan swiftly bent over, touching the suitcase briefly before straightening up again.

None of the robbers noticed anything unusual.

They had no idea that the gold they had worked so hard to steal had vanished, safely tucked away in Logan's space!

Now, he needed to figure out how to escape.

The SUV screeched into reverse, turning to flee down a side road.

The helicopters followed.

On one of the helicopters, a camera was trained on the robbers' SUV.

The SUV seemed to take a detour, and within ten minutes, a flyover bridge appeared ahead.

Under the bridge, traffic was flowing steadily, but Logan felt his body tense.

Parked under the bridge was an ordinary black sedan.

But Logan noticed something off.

Normally, even in a rush, people would park at the roadside outside the bridge, not under it.

And the area under the bridge was conveniently out of the helicopter's line of sight.

This was likely a getaway car the robbers had prepared in advance to shake off the pursuit.

If the robbers switched vehicles, they would discover the gold was missing, putting Logan in a very dangerous position.

And Logan's suspicion proved to be correct.

As the SUV pulled under the bridge, it suddenly braked hard.

There was no need to brake here unless they were planning to switch cars—there were no other vehicles ahead.

As the SUV came to a halt, Logan, seated between two of the robbers, suddenly reached out and grabbed their guns.

The robbers were about to react when they realized their hands were empty—their guns had vanished!

They were stunned.

In an instant, Logan had a gun in his hand. He aimed at the third armed robber in the back and fired a headshot!

Without hesitation, he fired two more shots, killing the other two unarmed robbers in the back seat.

At such close range, Logan didn't even need to aim carefully.

Hearing the gunshots from the back, the close-cropped man in the passenger seat instinctively turned around. His body was still leaning forward from the sudden stop, and before he could react, Logan had already aimed the gun at his head.

The close-cropped man's eyes widened in shock. He couldn't believe that the seemingly helpless rich kid hostage had managed to grab his companions' guns!

Logan's skilled movements, the speed and precision of his shots, and the cold, emotionless demeanor were completely at odds with his youthful appearance.

The close-cropped man opened his mouth, as if to say something, but Logan had already pulled the trigger.

All of this happened in the blink of an eye, even though it sounds like it took longer.

The driver, the last remaining robber, kept both hands on the steering wheel.

Sensing something was wrong, he quickly reached for the gun at his waist, but before he could disengage the safety, his head exploded in a spray of blood.

With that, all five robbers were dead.

The SUV's bulletproof glass and soundproofing, along with the absence of passing cars, meant that no one else heard the gunshots.

After shooting the driver, Logan quickly got out of the car, avoiding the view of passing vehicles. He placed his hand on the car's body, and with a thought, he stored both the SUV and the bodies inside his space.

Then he quickly walked over to the black sedan.

He opened the door and got in.

The car wasn't locked, and the keys were still in the ignition.

Logan stepped on the gas, and the car sped away.

Ten minutes later, after confirming that no helicopters were tracking his position, Logan drove into a secluded wooded area.

The vehicle swap had been so quick that the helicopters didn't realize the robbers had changed cars, and the bridge had already seen some vehicle traffic, allowing Logan to escape the authorities' surveillance.

Once he was certain that no one was around and there were no cameras, Logan stored the black sedan in his space and retrieved the SUV.

It was time to collect his spoils.

He retrieved five handguns and ten magazines from the robbers.

Logan picked up one of the guns, expertly swapping out the spent magazine.

He had handled guns before in his past life, but Xia Country's strict gun control made acquiring a handgun extremely difficult.

Guns were a rare and valuable commodity, both before and after the apocalypse.

This time, Logan had taken a huge risk, not just for the gold bars, but for the guns as well.

With a gun in hand, his chances of surviving the early days of the apocalypse would increase significantly.

Logan searched the vehicle a bit more and found some cash and two knives.

He stored all these items along with the gold bars.

Though the bank gold purchase had an unexpected turn, the rewards had far exceeded Logan's expectations.

After ensuring there was nothing left behind, Logan stored the SUV back in his space.

When the apocalypse came, he would dispose of the bodies by tossing them into the sea, where they would be encased in thick ice, never to be found.

With everything taken care of, Logan walked some distance before hailing a cab to the police station.

Meanwhile, the police arrived at the overpass where the SUV had disappeared, only to find nothing.

The robbers and the SUV seemed to have vanished into thin air.

The robbers had also preemptively tampered with the surveillance cameras under the bridge, leaving the authorities with nothing to go on.

The police were left empty-handed.

Half an hour later, at the central police station.

"You're saying the robbers drove into the mountains, then let you go, and drove away?"

"Do you remember the license plate number?"

"Did you see which direction they went?"

The police officers bombarded Logan with questions.

The robbery at Xia Country Bank's Harbor city branch, where robbers stole $25 million worth of gold bars and took a hostage, had attracted widespread attention, both locally and nationwide.

Although the hostage was now safe, the robbers and the gold bars were missing, leaving the police chief of the central station in a difficult position.

Logan answered all the questions he could truthfully.

For the ones he couldn't, he simply put on a clueless expression, claiming he didn't know, didn't notice, or hadn't paid attention.

With both the robbers and the car having vanished into thin air, making up too many lies would only create more loopholes.

Logan only needed to play dumb.

Although he was still under suspicion, the police would eventually find out that he had no prior contact with the robbers.

After all, just a few days ago, he was still a regular university student.

There was no need for an airtight alibi; the authorities' investigation would eventually clear Logan of any involvement.
