"Sit down, Noxia." My parents tell me.
"Why?"
"Because tomorrow you're 16. Then you will become a target."
"A target?" My eyes wided. "What does that mean?"
"So, you have targets and you have hunters."
"Hunters? What is happening please explain what it is."
"You have a visum of 3 days. Every day around 10pm you can to go to the forest. If you're a Hunter you go in the inner circle, and if you're a target like us, you have to go to the outer circle. You have to visit the hunt forest at least once in there days, otherwise your visum will end and... yeah..."
"What happens if I don't play in time?" I ask.
"You die." My older brother Caspian says.
"We are all targets. Targets are most likely to die."
Caspian sits down at the table in front of me. "The hunters have to kill at least 1 target, otherwise they die. If they kill us, well.. we are dead."
"So I am likely to die the first night?" I ask.
"NO ofcourse not." My parents say.
"Yes, basically." Caspian answers. "Don't lie to her, this is important."
"Every night you can hear a loud Bell. We call it the sign. Then you can go to the forest, or stay at home. After 3 days you HAVE to go to the forest, but we already explained that."
"Okay so how do I not get killed by the hunters?" I ask Caspian, knowing he won't lie.
"Just run. You are quite fast so I don't think the hunters will get you. But you can't leave the forest 'till midnight. If you enter the arena you can't leave before the 2 hours."
"What if I become a Hunter?" I ask. My parents eyes widen and tell me I won't, because the whole family is targets.
"Except fo-" caspian says.
"Except for no one, Caspian. Everyone in our family is a target." My mom doesn't let him finish his sentence.
There are so many questions racing in my mind. Where is the arena, how many hunters and targets are out there, will I become a target or a hunter?
"How do I know if I'm a target or a Hunter?" I ask my parents.
"As we said, you are 16 tomorrow. You will get a little square on the back of your hand. If it's blue you are a target. If it is red you are a hunter." They answer.
I notice the blue squares on their hands.
The Bell Rings. It's 9.55pm. 5 minutes before the games begin.
"We have to go, our visum ends today. Stay carefull and don't go out of the house!" My dad yells as he runs away with my mother and Caspian.
Should I follow them? I walk to the door.
