Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"Daryl, what do you think Newton's third law of motion states?".

"Sir Bren".

A teenage boy wearing the standard uniform made up of a white long-sleeved shirt and jet black trousers stood up to answer the question.

"According to Newton's third law,to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction".

"Excellent, now a practical example is when a gun . . .".

His short black hair coupled with his eyes azure as the sky gave him a look to kill for. His symmetrical jawline also added to the mix which could only be described as handsome.

"Alright class. We'll continue our lesson tomorrow. Don't forget the science project due next week else it's 1 week in detention. Class dismissed".

As soon as the tall lanky middle aged man wearing glasses dismissed the class, everyone sprang up and rushed for the exit. Daryl took a grab at his black satchel and made for the door. Suddenly he felt someone bump into him tipping him off balance.

"Hey Daryl what's up? Let's go grab a bite at the cafeteria. I bet you're starving after that boring lecture".

Looking up to his tall friend he gave a wide grin. "Can't say you're wrong about that".

The guy standing next to Daryl was Benjamin. He had quite a well built stature for an 18 year old. And being 3 years older than Daryl, he saw himself as a big brother to him. Daryl and Ben had been friends since to they were first years and all the way up to third year. While Daryl gave of an aura of handsomeness Ben was more of an epitome of manliness. Curly brown hair and eyes of matching colour accounted to his features. After exiting the classroom, both headed on to the school cafeteria. International Student College is a very prestigious institution. Having state-of-the-art facilities for extra curricular activities and academic purpose, it wouldn't be an understatement to say this was the dream school for any aspiring student. ISC has insanely high standards for being admitted. Either you got the cash or the brains, else you're out. The school has living quarters for the students. There are two blocks of flats to accommodate the meager population of 578 students. The upper class building and the lower class building. In the upper class building are what I would call the nobles of society. Kids of millionaires, billionaires and any other '-naires' you can think of all stay there. Even though the other one's called lower class comparing it to other boarding houses is straight down heaven to hell. Daryl and Ben entered the cafeteria. It was painted red and yellow on both halves of the building that is left and right with a burger sign on the roof. After getting their food, they took a seat at one of the long tables. Ben immediately began to dig into one of his hamburgers but Daryl just continued to stare at the tantalizing meal without taking a single bite, seemingly lost in thought.

"Hey, you okay?".

Ben had noticed his demeanor for quite a while now and it worried him.

"You've never been like this before. What's on your mind?".

"Hahaha aaaah Ben. What do you think of this life".

Holding on with his burger, Ben stared at him as he would a green Martian.

"No offense, but I think you've got a screw loose. I mean look at this place. What else could you possibly ask for. Good food, great clothes, dainty bedding, this is a life of luxury. If you're not satisfied with it you're more than welcome to leave".

"Not that!". Daryl said feeling exasperated.

" I mean, isn't this life boring. Having to do the same old thing over and over and over and . . .".

"Yeah, yeah, yeah I get it".

" I just wish this world could be a bit more exciting for once you know".

At this point, Daryl's face tilted upwards had a dreamy expression, an impression that nothing would stop him from achieving what he wanted to. 'So that's what this is about huh'. Ben then grinned as bread crumbs fell onto their table.

"Daryl, for once I'm disappointed in you". Shock and anger wriggled their way onto his face as the words fell on him. Ben continued.

" I can't believe that after all these years of watching anime together, YOU DON'T THINK I FEEL THE SAME WAY!".

The sound of silence then rang clear and it was an awkward one. Daryl's furrowed brows began to relax and relax until a subtle smile crept up his face which he just couldn't suppress.

"Of course I know what you're talking about. Day in day out seeing those works of art demonstrate extraordinary capabilities sets me on fire".

"So I just keep waiting for that day Daryl, the day our wildest imaginations break through the realms of fiction and enter the dimensions of our reality. Even if it doesn't come, I won't stop waiting".

Hearty laughter resounded as Daryl opened his mouth.

"I knew I wasn't wrong about you Ben, I just knew it".

The two youngsters sat in silence each enjoying their meal, but one could almost feel the bond between them. It was as if the sun stood high in the sky to give a glorifying effect to the moment.

Meanwhile at the school gates.

It was afternoon but the security guard was sleeping on the job. He sat comfortably in his swivel chair, cap on his face, snoring away. Even though it was only afternoon, the sky began to darken as clouds converged. But these clouds gave off an dark green colour. It was impossible to miss the unmistakable roaring of thunder as jagged lightning forks flashed in the sky. The noise startled the man, making him fall off his chair.

"What in Old Sally's name was tha . . . . . . Good grief!".

His jaw simply dropped at this breathtaking spectacle. He couldn't help but tremble and shiver at the sight. An ominous feeling sprouted in him as soon as he gazed upon it. He grabbed his walkie talkie and immediately yelled.

"CHIEF!CHIEF! ARE YOU SEEING THIS!!".

A voice came up.

"Of course I can you think I'm

blind. By the way I suggest you lockdown the gates immediately".

Even though the voice seemed calm and collected, the guard could still sense a sort of shakiness and anxiety in it. And there was also something else.

Fear.

'What is it?! Chief's never been like this!'

"CHIEF WHAT'S GOING ON!!"

"LOCKDOWN THE DAMN GATES IF YOU DON'T WANT TO DIE!!".

The guard immediately slammed down his fist on a large red button. All of a sudden, thick metallic walls slammed into each other infront of the ornamental gates. The man then checked the monitor that accessed the security camera system to check on the situation outside. First it just looked like a black line at the end of the horizon , but as time went on the line came closer and taller and closer and taller untill it could be seen clearly. When the man finally saw what the black line truly was, his eyes widened in shock. He continued to stand with his eyes glued to the monitor unable to bring himself to avert his gaze. In simple terms, he was petrified with fear. He only managed to stammer a few words.

"M . . Mo . . . Mons . . ter . s".
