Chapter 52 - 52. Illusions

Amber held her breath while thinking fondly of her beautiful Ena and Fluffy, when suddenly she was enclosed in a warm yellow glow of light. Jessera suddenly turned her head up towards Amber's direction, squinting her eyes while looking at her. Amber's heart dropped in fear. Amber was very clear about this particular character, since she had been one of her favorites.

As fast as lightning, Jessera's hand shot out from the pocket of her wrapped, knee length, dark brown dress. Her dress was tied together with a dark green sash and she had matching green leggings underneath. Brown flats were securely on her feet. Jessera's shoes were enchanted so that she could walk where she normally shouldn't be able to.

In her hand was a metal fan that flashed open. Amber closed in on herself, trying to take up as little space as possible, just as a tree directly beside her was sliced clean through by a gust of wind.

The cut was so smooth that it took a moment for the top of the tree to start sliding along the trunk. Just as it was about to loudly crash down below, Jessera quickly moved her fan in several different angles, rapidly firing multiple blades of wind. The tree trunk burst into smaller pieces of wood, floating on the air until the tree turned into a fine powder and floated away. Then Jessera made quick work of the rest of that tree.

The only thing you could hear was a strong wind blowing through the trees. There weren't the typical sounds of wood being cut. Neither were the other trees damaged in any way. When Jessera was done slicing up the tree, the wind died down into nothingness.

Jessera frowned while staring, but there was no indication that she saw anyone there. Amber stayed perfectly still.

"Hmm," Jessera said to herself, then shrugged her shoulders, and pulled out a thin white tube.

She pushed a button on the side of the tube and it expanded upwards until it was double her height. As it stopped lengthening, the top half of the tube shot out to resemble a large white umbrella. While the bottom of the tube curved around like the handle of an upside down cane. She flicked her hand at the umbrella and it started to levitate. Then she sat down on the curved bottom. She flicked her hand again and the umbrella lifted her up into the air. It wasn't until Jessera flew off, that Amber breathed deeply, and realized just how tense she had been.

Then Amber felt a strong stinging pain coming from the side of her hand, between her pointer finger, and her thumb. When she looked down, there was a tiny pixie with long blond hair and big golden eyes staring up at her. Her skin was a light golden brown and she had a cute little nose. She was wearing a yellow sundress. She had little feathered yellow wings.

Amber's heart would have melted in that instant, if this cute little pixie hadn't been biting the sensitive and fleshy part of her hand! It looked up at Amber with innocent big golden eyes in its delicate face. It looked up while fluttering its long blond eyelashes at Amber. Amber's face remained natural, as she curled her fingers around the offending pixie, and squeezed her hand into a fist.

Amber's flesh was released from the Pixie's mouth with a pop, while the pixie gasped in shock.

[Hey! Is that any way to treat your rescuer? That hurts. Release me!]

Startled, Amber loosened her grip. Then she quickly tightened it again, just as the little pixie was slipping out of her grasp.

The little pixie poofed out her cheeks like a tiny puffer fish and crossed it's arms above the top of Amber's hand. Her light golden skin turned a pinkish hue while she held her breath.

[Release me this instant!] She yelled into Amber's mind. She balled up her fists and tried to beat up Amber's thumb.

"Pfft!" Amber couldn't hold back a chuckle while watching the little Pixie battle with her thumb and completely losing. Thumb wins!

"Aren't you a cute little mafau? I may have to keep you around for amusement." Amber said while petting the head of the angry pixie with her pointer finger.

[Stop!] The little pixie said while lifting up her arms and pushing Amber's finger off her head.

[I can't believe big sis decided to make you her master! Big sis doesn't usually make mistakes. You're completely unworthy of her. You evil thing must have tricked her somehow!]

"Big sis?" Amber said.

[My big sis! Ennnaaaa. Who else could it be?]

Amber released the little blond pixie. She immediately flew away from Amber's hand and started straightening the wrinkles out of her yellow sundress. She had an indignant look on her face, as if garbage had tainted her dress.

[I am of noble birth! It's outrageous that I was rough handled by a lowly thing like you. However, my beautiful sister begged me to help you. How could I refuse her? ]

The pixie flicked her long blonde hair behind her shoulder and stuck up her nose proudly.

[Apparently you're entirely helpless and need to be babysat. Ena asked me to follow and rescue you if needed. I never expected to save you almost immediately after you entered the forest!]

"How can I understand you so easily? It took a while to understand Ena," Amber said.

The pixie put her finger to the side of her chin, as if she were contemplating something. Then she smiled.

[Guess I'm just fabulous and awesome. I'm not saying that I'm better than my sister though, don't misunderstand.] She said while pointing her finger accusingly at Amber.

[Don't think too highly of yourself. I'm only going to protect you because Ena asked me to. You're nothing special. I am Princess Alina, the royal daughter of King Elidi, ruler of the light pixies. Ena is my older step sister. I'm at least grateful that you gave Ena a name, even though it isn't as radiant as she is.] Alina looked down at her feet and rubbed the tips of her toes together.

[Only royals or stronger spirits are permitted to have names, unless they are bestowed them by their masters. I always thought that it wasn't fair that Ena didn't have a name.]

Alina looked into Amber's eyes. [She really is the best older sister that I could have asked for. I'm grateful for that and that she seems so happy with you cause you treat her well. But don't become too proud of yourself, I'm still my big sis's favorite!

Amber sighed and then chuckled. "Are you sure that you'll be able to protect me? Such a tiny thing like you couldn't even win a war against my thumb," Amber said.

Alina put her hands on her hips and stuck out her chest proudly. [I'll have you know that it was my magic that made you invisible just now! I may be small and young, but I'm a member of the royal family of light pixies!] She says while slapping her chest proudly in a wide stance.

[Almost no one can top our Illusion capabilities. I can make anything up close disappear at will. When I get older, not only will I have a larger range to make things disappear, I'll also be able to make people think that they see things that aren't real AND I'll be able to make strong sunbeams to burn whatever or whomever I think is annoying!] Alina says while glaring at Amber.

"Mhmm. I'll believe it when I see it," says Amber while climbing down from the tree.

[I'm awesome! Don't regret it later when you have to eat your words!]

"Sure, sure," says Amber while walking further into the woods.

[Don't walk away from me! At least let me ride on your shoulder. Do you know how tiring it is to fly everywhere?]

Alina quickly flew after Amber and landed on her shoulder. She sat down and started to situate her dress just as Amber reached over and flicked her off with her fingers, like a bug. Alina tumbled head over heels through the air until she finally righted herself. She poofed up her cheeks once again and angrily flew in front of Amber to confront her.

"It's good that you already had a name or I would have been tempted to name you Puffer Fish," Amber said.

[Why did you flick me off?!]

"I don't give free rides. If you want me to carry you, you'll have to give me something in exchange."

[I already saved you once.]

"So you say, but the only way you'll get to ride on my shoulder is if you can serve a purpose. Are you useful?"

[Of course I am! It should be your honor just to be my form of transportation!]

Amber silently pushes the little pixie to the side and continues to walk. Alina grabs hold of a bit of Amber's hair, trying to hold her back, but it's no use. Amber continues to walk, completely unresponsive to the pixie's temper.

[Fine! I will mask you! I will make you invisible as long as you give me a ride! Flying is too tiring!]

"Well, why didn't you say that from the beginning? Was it really that hard?" Amber said while snatching the little pixie out of the air and planting Alina on her shoulder.

Alina's cheeks puffed out as she flicked her wrist and sparkling yellow light shot out from her fingertips enclosing Amber once again.

Amber glances over at the little pixie pouting while sitting out her shoulder. "Puffer Fish really would have suited you. Are you sure that you don't want to switch your name?"

Alina didn't say anything, but she silently glared at the newly added yellow jewel proudly glittering on Amber's ear. Why was she so impulsive? It's clearly because Ena was always praising this master of hers! But it wasn't so bad seeing her yellow jewel glittering next to her big sister's gray one.
