Elara sat up in the chair next to Amara's hospital bed, her gaze fixed on Amara's peacefully sleeping face. She should've been relieved that Amara was okay, but the events of the past few hours had left her a little shaken. What happened back in that sterile, white room? Amara's eyes had looked… different, and Elara wasn't sure what to make of it.
Still, there was no denying it she felt a little lighter knowing Amara was safe.
After a few moments, Amara stirred, mumbling something in her sleep that made Elara smile in spite of herself. Then, just as Elara was about to settle back into the chair, Amara blinked her eyes open, her voice groggy as she looked up at her. "Elara…"
"Yeah, yeah. I'm still here," Elara replied, her voice soft as she smoothed Amara's hair back from her face.
Amara's expression shifted into one of amusement. "You look like a sleep-deprived raccoon."
Elara raised an eyebrow. "Says the person who's been unconscious for hours."
