Elara's mind was still reeling from Eirik's sudden appearance as she sat across from Amara, who was furiously tapping something into her phone. How had he even known where to find her? She'd changed apartments, moved to a secure building… It shouldn't have been possible for him to show up here. Amara's face was a mask of worry as she dialed her driver, insisting that he come pick them up immediately.
"Amara," Elara said, her voice uncertain, "you don't think… he would actually try something, do you?"
Amara snapped her phone shut, her gaze hardening. "With Eirik, I wouldn't put anything past him. He's desperate, controlling, and apparently has the gall to hunt you down like he's auditioning for some melodramatic villain role."
Elara glanced out the window, a chill creeping up her spine. "It just doesn't make sense. This building is supposed to be secure."
