A WEEK LATER
"Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday Jasmine!
Happy birthday to you!"
The crowd in the big hall chanted, their voices echoing off the walls as they clapped their hands to urge Mrs. Jasmine Garlise to blow out the candles on the beautiful cake.
Meanwhile, Raymond's gaze scanned the room, searching for Natalie's familiar face.
But she was nowhere to be found.
After they had finished with the final decorations, Natalie had told them she was going home to get something and would return to the party.
Raymond's eyes locked onto Charlotte, who was standing beside him.
"Is Natalie here yet?" he whispered, his voice barely audible over the cheers.
Charlotte's eyes swept the room, her brow furrowed.
She shook her head and whispered back, "Raymond, I don't think you should wait for her. I doubt she's coming." Her face held a tinge of pity.
