Jin Yao couldn't understand why Chi Yu suddenly turned hostile.
After a moment of silence, he asked, "Did I do something wrong?"
The mistake lay with the person he once was, not who he is now.
Chi Yu had long stated that they were even, with nothing left between them.
There was no need for Jin Yao to don this façade of repentance and plea for forgiveness.
"I am not one to revisit the past. Circling around me will yield nothing but my disdain," Chi Yu remarked coldly.
She had discerned Jin Yao's intentions long ago, choosing silence only because she believed he would figure it out himself.
But now, it seemed he was determined to feign ignorance.
Harboring futile hopes, Jin Yao wished Chi Yu would delay bringing matters to light.
In doing so, he could continue to avoid facing the harsh truth: Chi Yu had moved on, and she was unlikely to ever turn her gaze back to him.
But the day of reckoning had arrived.
