Alex, after a moment of contemplation, instructed Ethan, "Please bring me the resumes of all the candidates who applied for the Account Manager position, along with the results from the selection panel." Ethan nodded in acknowledgment and left the cabin.
Upon reaching his desk, Ethan promptly contacted the HR department, requesting the files as per Alex's instructions.
Within thirty minutes, the file containing the resumes and the selection panel's results arrived on Alex's desk. As he reviewed the document, he noted that Sophia had been selected for the Account Manager position. Meanwhile, Ethan, sitting outside the cabin, observed Alex through the window. It was unusual for Mr. Blackwood to divert his attention from critical business matters to something as routine as a hiring decision.
After studying the results, Alex instructed Ethan, "Inform the HR department to select someone else for the Account Manager position. Also, bring me the details of my schedule for today."
Once Ethan had disconnected, Alex called Daniel, requesting his presence in the office.
As Ethan glanced over Mr. Blackwood's schedule for the day, he couldn't help but wonder why Sophia had suddenly become a point of contention. He noted how Mr. Blackwood had requested Sophia's details in the morning and now had disqualified her from the position of Account Manager, even before she was informed of her selection. Ethan felt a pang of sympathy for the girl, who seemed to be caught in a whirlwind of unexpected circumstances.
Lost in his thoughts, Ethan arrived at Alex's cabin, where Daniel had also joined him. They exchanged brief glances before Ethan knocked and entered the room.
Ethan entered Alex's cabin, holding a neatly organized folder with the day's schedule. As Daniel took a seat in a corner, Ethan approached Alex's desk and began, "Good afternoon, Mr. Blackwood. Here's a rundown of your schedule for today."
Ethan opened the folder and continued, "At 2:00 PM, you have a meeting with the board of directors to discuss the upcoming quarterly reports. At 3:30 PM, there's a strategy session with the marketing team regarding the new product launch. Finally, at 5:00 PM, you're scheduled for a conference call with international partners to finalize the overseas expansion plans."
Alex reviewed the schedule briefly, then turned to Daniel. "Daniel, would you be able to attend these meetings on my behalf? I have some urgent matters on my mind right now that need my full attention."
Daniel, slightly taken aback by the request, nodded in understanding. "Of course, Alex. I'll handle them for you."
Alex gave a brief nod of thanks and gestured for Ethan to make the necessary arrangements. Ethan, noting the shift in priorities, quickly left to reschedule or delegate the meetings as instructed.
As Ethan was about to leave the room, Alex called him back. "Ethan, before you go, issue an appointment letter to Ms. Sophia for the position of my personal assistant," Alex instructed.
Ethan paused, visibly surprised by the sudden change. "Boss, are you firing me?" he asked, his voice tinged with concern.
Daniel, who had been following the conversation, quickly intervened. "Just go, Ethan, and issue the appointment letter to your future lady boss."
Ethan took a moment to process the information, his confusion slowly giving way to realization. Understanding the situation, he nodded and left the cabin with a sense of determination and sincerity, ready to execute Alex's new directive.
As Ethan left the cabin, Daniel and Alex turned to face each other. Daniel asked, "Brother, may I leave now, or do you have something else to share with me?"
Alex took a moment before replying, "Daniel, will you go to America for me?"
Daniel looked at him, waiting for further explanation. Alex continued, "I've been preparing for the expansion of our business into America since the start of the month. I've already booked my tickets for tomorrow. But right now, I'm stuck. I don't want to leave Sophia here; I fear losing her again. And as for the importance of our business in America, you already know."
Daniel nodded in understanding. "I know this year we plan to completely eliminate our rivals, the ones responsible for our father's death."
Alex sighed and said, "Exactly. I need you to handle the business matters there and ensure everything proceeds smoothly. Alex added, "I plan to join you in America within a month, once Sophia agrees to come with us. I need to ensure everything is set up and ready before then, but she's my priority right now."
In the evening, Sophia received a call from the HR department of BW Group. The HR representative informed her that the account manager position had been given to someone else. However, they were pleased to offer her the role of Personal Assistant to the CEO instead. Sophia was initially taken aback by the change but quickly felt honoured by the new opportunity. She happily accepted the offer, excited about the chance to work closely with the CEO. The HR representative informed her that the appointment letter would be sent to her via email and asked her to join the company the following day.
As soon as the call ended, Sophia quickly checked her email to confirm that the call wasn't a prank. To her surprise and delight, there it was—a genuine appointment letter from BW Group. A sudden wave of happiness washed over her as she realized this was real. Without hesitation, she called her parents to share the exciting news about her new job. Hearing the joy in their voices made her day even brighter. After talking to them, she immediately dialed her best friend, Ammy, and invited her to dinner to celebrate.
