I don't know who will ever find this diary, but if there's someone out there who reads these pages, they need to know the truth about what happened.
Our era has ended, and what remains is a world in which few of us have remained human.
It was 2049 when everything changed. A global pandemic, initially just a common flu, decimated half of the world's population in a year, only to mutate and bring the dead back to life. They weren't the classic zombies from the movies, but creatures hungry for flesh, fast and ruthless. Cities collapsed, civilization dissolved into a sea of chaos and destruction. People had to find a way to defend themselves and adapt to a new reality.
In an attempt to survive, scientists and the few remaining governments accelerated the development of cybernetic technology before they, too, disappeared into nothingness. Prosthetics and robotic implants became the norm for those who wanted to stay alive. People replaced arms, legs, and even internal organs with technologically advanced parts to withstand zombie attacks. But these transformations do not come without a price. The line between man and machine has become blurred, and many have turned into cold, emotionless beings.
Me, Ryan Miller, am one of the few who chose to maintain my humanity. Every day is a struggle against fear and despair as I watch society transform into something completely different from what it once was. The zombies continue to roam, and the cyborgs are everywhere, ready to defend themselves and their place in this new world.
