Beep—

Oliver sat quietly in the gloomy bed next to his feeble-looking younger sister, Elena. The rhythmic beeping of the medical equipment was the only noise that interrupted the absolute silence. 

Holding her frail hand, Oliver felt incredibly sad and cold. His warm skin was in great contrast to her, making his heart ache as he recalled her past appearance. Her beautiful little face filled with life as she rushed back from school and gave him a warm embrace, her body that was healthy and energetic, all of that had been replaced by a pale and vampire-like appearance. 

"Elena…" Oliver sighed, his eyes uncomfortably shifting outside. The world had changed so much from the past, nothing was the same anymore. 

When the world shook and countless portals opened, the humans had realized their life changed. A system's notifications showed for selected people—and they were called the Awakeners. 

On that day, the world had changed. The previous system of power was overthrown, and a new chaotic era was created. At the end, the world stabilized, however, it was only after suffering major losses on individual and global scale. 

Elena was one of those people who suffered due to that. The new world, for many, was a blessing. But for Oliver,  the world had grown darker. 

Elena, his dear sister, didn't suffer anything before the world's chaos started. But once those portals opened, she fell unconscious, never opening her eyes again. Countless doctors checked her condition and they all said the same: it was chronic and it would snatch her life at the end. There was no use in trying to save her anymore. 

But Oliver persisted. Using all of his inheritance he received from their parents and starting to work by himself too, Oliver spent millions just in order to keep her alive. 

All hoping for her to wake up one day. 

"How ironic, thought… Elena, the thing that's destroying you is probably the new magic of this world. And yet, it's the only way to keep you alive now. Isn't it funny? The world created the disease and its slow-acting poison, and I'm supposed to celebrate it with everyone."

But then, something happened. 

「A strong Desire had been detected」

"What?" 

Oliver blinked, this notification was something he only saw in videos. It was the notification that appeared for the so-called awakeners. For a moment, he stared at it. Unsure what he should do. 

'I never imagined something like this could be possible.'

Rather, it was probably impossible to happen. He had no affinity to anything that the usual notification was triggered for—aside from what it said, 'A strong desire had been detected.'

But again… 

"It's not a choice. I can't really choose this or refuse it…"

Tightening his hold on Elena's hand, Oliver extended his other hand to touch the notification. It was the time to accept the new change of his life. 

"I lose nothing anyway, and who knows, maybe I can save you with my new powers. Pray for me, lil' sis."
