Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Kekkei Tōta

"Prepare yourselves well, for the next phase of training will be extremely tough. If you don't reach a satisfactory level, I won't stop easily."

Uchiha Kira said as he took out two sheets of paper from his pocket, introducing himself, "Before we start the official training, I'll test your chakra nature affinities so that I can tailor the training according to your needs."

Both Tōshirō and Fugaku nodded, taking the sheets of paper.

Fugaku asked, "How does the chakra nature test work?"

"Good question."

Uchiha Kira swallowed and began explaining every detail related to chakra nature affinities, showing his eagerness to teach.

Fugaku quickly understood and infused his chakra into the chakra paper. It didn't take long for the right side of the paper to burn and the left side to wrinkle.

"You have fire and lightning affinities, both of which are very powerful ninjutsu elements."

Uchiha Kira wasn't surprised by this, as Fugaku's father, Uchiha Raiko, possessed lightning and fire affinities, so it was natural for Fugaku to be attuned to these chakra elements.

Chakra nature affinities have a degree of inheritance; the more proficient a person is with a certain technique, the more naturally attuned the next generation is to the related chakra nature, making it easier to train.

The older the family, the more evident this phenomenon is. The Uchiha clan is a prime example; 9 out of 10 Uchiha members master fire techniques.

Upon hearing that he possessed two chakra natures with great destructive power, Fugaku looked challengingly at Tōshirō, raising his eyebrows.

Although he couldn't defeat Tōshirō now, he never thought his talent would be any less than Tōshirō's.

Tōshirō chuckled and said, "As expected from the son of a hero, your chakra affinity is amazing."

Then he took the chakra paper and infused his chakra into it. He had tested it before, and the only reaction was burning. But after awakening his Ice Release ability, he wanted to see how the paper would respond this time.

Moments later, the chakra paper began to react. First, the left side burned, then a change occurred on the right side; instead of any familiar reaction that Uchiha Kira had mentioned, the right side completely froze, radiating cold.

Fugaku was shocked and said, "What's happening here? Why did the paper freeze?"

He then looked at Uchiha Kira beside him with a questioning glance.

Uchiha Kira was in a state of astonishment; he had never seen anything like this before in his life.

(Note from the author: In the original story, there wasn't a direct reaction mentioned for chakra testing for Bloodline Limit ninjas, so let me show some creativity.)

At this moment, Elder Itachi, who had been silent, spoke: "This is Ice Release."

Ice Release?

Uchiha Kira was surprised and said, "Have you awakened Ice Release?"

This news both shocked and delighted him. Although it wasn't the Sharingan, it was still a Bloodline Limit ability.

Tōshirō said, "What's the matter? Didn't Elder Itachi tell you?"

"..."

Uchiha Kira had only been tasked with training Tōshirō and wasn't informed of anything else.

Now he understood why Elder Itachi specifically wanted Tōshirō to be trained.

But what he didn't understand was why Elder Itachi decided to send someone with such a great talent to the medical unit to become a medical ninja. This seemed like a waste of talent.

However, since Elder Itachi decided this, he must have had his reasons, so it was inappropriate to ask questions, at least for now.

But the problem was that Uchiha Kira wasn't a ninja with an Ice Release Bloodline Limit. How would he teach him?

Although Tōshirō had a high affinity for the fire element, it was impossible to ignore the Bloodline Limit in favor of training only the fire technique.

In normal circumstances, Bloodline Limit techniques are more powerful than the five great elements and less prone to countering since they involve the fusion of two elements.

When Uchiha Kira looked towards Elder Itachi for guidance, the latter closed his eyes as if to say, "Don't ask me, I don't know."

Uchiha Kira: ...

In the background, Uchiha Madara slightly lowered his head, his eyes deep in thought.

Uchiha Madara had only learned that Tōshirō possessed Ice Release yesterday, which was a pleasant surprise for him.

Over the years of observing Tōshirō, Madara had discovered that Tōshirō seemed to be paranoid. Sending ninja cats to approach him without caution might expose them, so Madara preferred to monitor him with minimal intervention.

Madara wasn't afraid that Tōshirō would discover them because of his power at this age. He was more concerned about some unstable factors, such as coincidence or luck, those mysterious things.

Moreover, the number of ninja cats he sent to monitor Konoha was limited (as increasing the number increased the chances of detection), and they also had to monitor other things, which resulted in Madara only discovering that Tōshirō had Ice Release yesterday. This realization made him see Tōshirō as a rare ninja with two Kekkai Genkai powers, making him even more satisfied with Tōshirō.

Thus, the plan to develop Tōshirō as a tool needed a major revision.

If he wasn't mistaken, the Land of Water had a ninja with Ice Release, and it might be possible to obtain information on how to train this ability from there, and then present it to Tōshirō.

Whether or not they would give him this information didn't matter to Madara, as he could simply use the Sharingan to control them and get it done.

Additionally, the Land of Water was once home to ninja with the Boil Release, which means they should have some ideas on how to combine water and fire elements.

To make Tōshirō the perfect tool for Uchiha Madara, having the power alone wasn't enough; he also needed immense strength. So, Tōshirō having Ice Release and the Sharingan wasn't enough in Madara's eyes, making him just another ninja.

If Tōshirō could awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan, he might be qualified, but the obvious drawbacks of this ability make it problematic. Furthermore, Madara hadn't heard of Tōshirō having any close siblings, and even if he did, it's difficult to awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan.

"Choku Tomoe Mangekyō Sharingan" is a term Madara used to describe his own eyes, which feature unique patterns.

While the Mangekyō Sharingan rarely appears, its long history in the Uchiha clan has seen several, but it suffers from a major flaw, leading to blindness. For the Uchiha clan, losing their eyes is harder than death.

The Uchiha clan has always strived to find a solution to this problem.

After years of relentless research, they discovered that the cause might be the eyes' inability to withstand the immense power of vision, so they proposed merging two pairs of eyes to enhance the eye's power.

To minimize potential rejection, the eyes must be of the same level and from first-degree relatives. This requirement made finding a suitable pair difficult, and even when available, success was still elusive.

Even Madara, after losing hope, succeeded by chance in developing the first "Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan" in history.

This is why Madara's plan to develop Tōshirō focuses on Kekkai Tota and not just the Mangekyō Sharingan, as this would make Tōshirō a fully qualified tool.

Unless his ability was Wood Release, ordinary Kekkai Genkai abilities don't interest him.

Kekkai Tota is a power beyond Kekkai Genkai, and Madara, who always seeks power, showed great interest in this type of ability.

Kekkai Genkai is the fusion of two chakra natures, while Kekkai Tota is the fusion of three natures.

But this explanation isn't entirely accurate; it's more correct to say that Kekkai Tota arises from the fusion of two Kekkai Genkai, and it can't be just any random mix but must have a relationship between them, much like merging two Mangekyō Sharingan to form the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. The dissonance between them must first be reduced.

These two types of Kekkai Genkai must share at least one chakra nature. For example, let's take the well-known Kekkai Tota in this world as an example.

(Wind + Earth) + (Earth + Fire) = Dust Release

Based on this, we can assume that the plan to develop Tōshirō will be similar.

Tōshirō has Ice Release (Wind + Water) and is born into the Uchiha clan, which has a natural affinity for the fire element.

So, the plan to develop Tōshirō will be:

(Wind + Water) + (Water + Fire) = ???

Wind + Water = Ice Release

And Tōshirō already possesses this.

Water + Fire = Boil Release

And this exists in the Land of Water with information on how to combine them. In some way, Tōshirō was quite "lucky."

Whether it's Ice Release or Boil Release, the Land of Water holds information on how to train them, and this land is under Madara's control.

Of course, with Tōshirō's individual abilities, developing Kekkai Tota on his own would be difficult, possibly taking at least twenty or thirty years, but Madara is here to assist him in his development.

"It's really interesting, what kind of Keke Tota combination will you develop?"

As Madara thought about the Keke Tota that would be born by his own hands, he couldn't help but let a smile appear on his lips. Even the puppet he was controlling showed the same expression.

At that moment, Tōshirō noticed that the old Itachi was smiling at him with a mysterious and meaningful smile, which made him feel uneasy.

He thought to himself, "Why are you smiling at me like that? I haven't done anything wrong to you, have I?"
