Chapter 13 - Familiar faces

It was really confusing for Peter

To find one of the women he loved in this world playing the role of his sister.

Peter was sitting with his hand on his head when he suddenly started scratching it vigorously. "Oh my God, no matter how hard I try to forget, it keeps popping into my mind."

"Maybe you need to go out and clear your head, Peter," Karen spoke in her automated programmed voice.

"I don't know, Karen, but even going out to hang around, I don't think it will be enough to make me forget that," Peter replied, sighing.

"The decision is yours, dear," was Karen's only response.

As Peter continued to daydream about the confusing things he was experiencing now, his expression darkened slightly.

"Karen, in your opinion, how did this happen? I don't think it's natural, definitely not. From what I gathered from Cassandra, this reality isn't supposed to have any characters similar to mine."

"I've done all possible calculations thanks to the information you uploaded years ago and what Cassandra added about this world and yours. And with 90% certainty, I have the answer."

"From those readings, it seems the main reason is you, Peter. You are the center of the web. In other words, you are the web itself. Every world is connected to you; every key character tied to the web is therefore tied to you."

"When you first entered this reality, many forces in this universe were unlinked, opposing, and fighting each other. In short, they were completely disorganized."

"But thanks to your entry into this world, those forces found you as the point that would resolve their conflict. They joined the Web of Life and Destiny."

"This universe and the others were restructured to ensure your integration into this reality and make you a part of it."

"The reason some characters you interacted with in your original reality appear here is because you are connected to these people, whether positively or negatively. The web builds everything associated with you."

Peter remained silent, listening to Karen's explanation without interruption until she finished.

"So, in short, anyone I'm connected to, whether positively or negatively, might have a version created by the web in this reality?"

"Exactly."

Peter sighed, feeling a headache as he recalled all the people who were once close to him at some point in his life.

The worst part was his enemies from his personal rogues' gallery, being among his most dangerous foes. "Hell, even Venom might be in this reality now."

"Karen, tell me, is there any information about any of my old reality's enemies?"

"One moment, dear..."

"There are about five individuals identified as versions of people from your old reality, and these are just the ones registered in the global recognition system so far."

Peter's eyes widened. "Five people at least. That doesn't sound so bad. Karen, who are they?"

Peter placed his hands under his chin and looked at the screen in front of him. The screen shifted to display a profile of someone. "Ken Maroney."

Peter looked at the image showing his old reality counterpart in shock and whispered under his breath, "Ken."

Karen began to speak, "Ken Maroney, age 34, married, and a member of the Rapid Response Unit working in the Florida sector."

Peter continued staring at the image, slowly smiling as he noticed Ken looked happier and less miserable... at least Ken from this reality.

Then the screen changed to the second profile, and this time Peter's eye twitched slightly, but he made no comment.

"Felicia Kyle, age 32, works as an artifact appraiser in New York. Her only relative is her sister, Selina Kyle, who works in Gotham in the same field."

Peter narrowed his eyes, looking at the image of Felicia and Selina that appeared on the screen.

"It's surprising how different they look from each other. One has long silver-blonde hair, and the other has short black hair."

"According to the file, they're half-sisters from different mothers."

Peter squinted further, already deducing it was unlikely this Ken possessed any Spider-Man-related abilities since she wasn't a clone.

But what about Felicia? "Karen, tell me, is there any more information about Felicia?"

"If you mean her alternate persona in your reality known as Black Cat..."

"Then I regret to inform you that Felicia Kyle is also known as Black Cat in this universe, and her sister is known as Catwoman."

Peter slapped his face. "Oh my God... Wait a minute, Catwoman is Selina Kyle... Both sisters have cat-themed personas?"

"It seems so."

"Let me guess—they use their jobs as ways to scout their next targets... Oh my God. Alright, Karen, next, please."

"Susan Parker has already been listed."

The screen shifted again to show a woman in her early fifties.

This time, tears began streaming down Peter's face. "Aunt May."

"May Reilly, age 52, divorced. Relatives: one daughter. Works at New York General Hospital as a nurse for 30 years."

Peter's tears flowed as he looked at May's image.

He felt immense joy knowing she was also present in this new reality, although he found the divorce tragic—not to mention the daughter.

As far as he knew, his Uncle Ben from his original reality wasn't able to have children.

Suddenly, Peter realized something. "Karen, who is Aunt May's ex-husband in this reality, and why did they divorce?"

"Name: Jack Green. Status: deceased. They divorced due to abuse, according to the file and May Reilly's testimony in court. She married him only because she became pregnant in her late twenties. Jack Green died two years later from a heroin overdose."

Peter smiled sadly. "So, as I expected, Uncle Ben doesn't exist in this world, huh?"

Peter looked at May's image and vowed to check on her and offer any help she might need, even if discreetly—after all, he was a wealthy man now.

"Alright, Karen, the last person."

"Just so you know, this might be a bit shocking, dear."

Peter raised an eyebrow. "Really? That much? Is it more than Susan, who became my sister?"

"..."

"Yeah, as I thought. Just show me, Karen."

"Name: Teresa Reilly, age 32. Her only relative is her mother, May Reilly. She worked in the NYPD's narcotics division and was the youngest team leader in her department."

" She resigned after an ambush resulted in the deaths of five team members, three being paralyzed, leaving only her and her partner as survivors. She took full responsibility for the incident. Currently works in your company in the security department."

As Karen relayed all the information about Teresa, Peter was in shock. "Teresa is May's daughter, and she works in my company?"

Peter was speechless, and without thinking, he finally said, "Karen, you have clearance to access employee rosters. I want you to summon Teresa here."

"Done."
