Chapter 6 - physical training

Adler pov

A few months have passed since my father James left, for the walls to defend against the beast hoard, but news came recently that he was injured fighting an evolved beast, and he even managed to keep a vast majority intact.

It should be known that normal beast corpses can go anywhere from a few silvers, to a few gold coins. But evolved beasts are on a different level, many adventures don't ever see evolved beasts let alone live to talk about it, so my father killing one alone was a big deal.

My family was getting a lot of attention because of this, and many people coveted such corpses because their materials could be made into weapons, armor, and artifacts that could go for up to a hundred gold coins.

It should be known that the average sword made out of steel usually costs a few silvers, or a month's salary for the average common folk.

But even though it was worth a lot, James decided to keep, it once he returned home. I've overheard my mother and father talking about making daggers out of the canines of the leopard, and giving them to me once I go out adventuring.

When I heard this it made the bond I had with my current parents deepen, back in my old world my parents died when I was a teenager, and I couldn't remember having any good memories with them, and I regretted it back then.

I decided I would accept these two people who were biologically my parents, as my actual family, and I would not put up any barriers from them. Although I was going to do this, I wouldn't mention that I was mentally not their son.

3 years and 7 months pass

Adler POV

it is my 7th birthday, and I'm starting to develop in height and mass. With me growing my mana core and strengthening my muscles. I'm about as strong as I was when I was a human in my old world.

Although I am smarter and stronger than I was in my old body, I am still working on my hand-eye coordination. I'm still getting a feel for this body of mine, and don't have complete control of my body, and still sometimes stumble, or drop things.

Since this was the case I asked my father to train me, so I would be a strong adventure like him, and he agreed.

"Before we start, are you sure you want to train with me? I am not kidding about not letting you give up after you start it"

After I asked he told me that I would not be able to stop even if I begged him on my knees crying. I knew he was trying to build determination and discipline within me so I would grow into a good man.

"Yes, I want you to train me!"

Seeming happy with my answer my father told me to follow him outside, so we could start training. My father already had equipment for training, because he knew I would someday use them.

 a little while after training

James POV

I knew my son would want to start training at a young age, he's always had some hidden determination in his eyes when he would think we would not be looking. Although I should have found it weird, seeing such a young kid with that look in his eyes, made me strangely happy, and proud.

I knew if I reached him well, and trained him better, that he would be able to become one the strongest people in the kingdom.

But I was wrong, when I started training him I was astonished to see him barely breaking a sweat while doing exercises that I wouldn't even be able to think of doing when I was his age.

I decided if this was so easy for him to do I would not hold back in training him as hard as I could.

I walked back to the house while telling him to stay there and brought a small wooden sword and a larger one more fitted towards someone my size.

I decided to train him to bladed weapons like swords, or daggers, right now I was unsure which one he would use, but I thought I would teach him the sword first because that was what I specialized in.

As I arrived back at the training grounds I walked up to Adler, handed him the shortsword, and put the other sword in a more comfortable grip in my hands.

"since that stuff was not enough to tire you out, we will be sparring"

I spoke while walking a dozen feet back.

"get ready"

As I finished the words, dashed to him, and brought my sword down, barely allowing him time to block my attack.

------------

adler POV

My father attacked me suddenly, and I was barely able to bring my wooden sword up to block it. The force of the swing was so strong that it knocked me onto my back, but I managed to block it nonetheless.

As I got up I saw my father getting ready to strike me from the side and tried to swing at him, but he easily dodged and kicked me in the stomach.

"ugh"

My stomach was sore from being kicked so hard, although he was being very rough with someone my age, I knew he could instantly kill me if he used even a bit of his power.

I slowly brought myself up grimacing at the pain and got ready again, and the scene repeated.

--------------

hour later

adler POV

I was sprawled out on the floor and was gasping for breath.

Although I tried to land a few hits, he would easily dodge, and counterattack with a punch, kick, or would wack me with the wooden sword.

Near the end, my mother came out to tell us dinner was ready, and she saw me covered in bruises and was getting beat by James.

Since I was exhausted and somewhat injured, he decided that I would take a break for a few days, to recover.

My mother was a yellow core support mage, a level below my father's, so she used healing magic to increase the rate of my healing. According to her the bruises that would of taken a week to recover, would take 1-2 days to fully recover.

-----

2 days later

Since I was fully recovered I decided I would focus on making improvements to my mana core, I was getting close to the bottleneck of the solid color of my core, It would still take a year or two to reach that stage, but my progress was still very quick compared to others.

As I got up and left my room, I found my father waiting for me, so we could resume training. He had talked with me before and told me that we would not stop training until I was able to match him in term of skill with the sword.

I smiled wryly and knew he was not serious because it would take at least 10 years to get somewhat close to his level.

but I didn't comment and followed him, and proceeded to get pummeled until my mother came out to announce that dinner was ready.
