Charlie's POV
Thomas' brows furrowed as he tried to recollect what had happened: There was a boar, he came out of no where and attacked me. Charlie I had walked for hours, how did you get me back?
"I put your twine making skills to the test and made a sled, you are a good teacher Mr. Parker. I smiled at him brushed the hair off of his forehead.
He stared at me for a moment as if he was confused but ended up just saying: Thank you… for saving me.
The thought that I would accidentally hurt him made my stomach flip so that night I laid further away from him.
"Charlie? Are you mad at me?"
I sat up and twisted around to look at him confused: What! Why on earth would you think that?
For the first time since I had met him I saw him blush, he shyly continued: Well ever since we got here you've laid right next to me…
"No Thomas, I just can't stand the thought that I might move and hurt you"
Thomas instantly reached over and slid my entire body right next to him before saying: Good!
I couldn't help but giggle and even though I wanted to argue with him, his body felt so good next to mine so I settled in next to him and we fell asleep. I woke and it was still dark out save for the moonlight coming in and I watched his chest rising and falling as he slept, everything suddenly hit me all at once, us being stranded, his injury and I started to sob making him stir, I rolled over away from him to try to be quiet and block the noise but a whimper made its way out.
"Charlie, what's wrong?"
I tried to steady my voice as if he misheard and I wasn't crying when I replied: Nothings wrong, go back to sleep, you need to rest as much as you can if your going to heal.
"Please Charlie I know something is wrong, I need you to tell me what it is."
I knew he wouldn't give up on it so I rolled back toward him and told him: Seeing you laying there bloody under the bushes, not knowing if you would make it or not… but I couldn't think about that, I had to just get you back here no matter what. Its all just now sinking in that you could have died and after being with you this week I just… I think.. well I dont think I have words for the amount of pain I would feel if anything were to happen to you.
Thomas' eyes glistened from the tears that were welling up. He cleared his throat and with a broken voice he said: Likewise. He pulled me close to him and we stared into each others eyes for a while without saying a word, the only sound was our breathing and the waves of the ocean coming in and out. I felt butterflies in my stomach and a heat between my legs as I leaned up and kissed him
He put an arm around her waist to pull her close and his other hand touching her back and shoulder blade, moving up to her neck as he deepened the kissed. He pulled her closer into him until he let out a yell: Fuck! Oh, god!
I moved away from him quickly scared I may have hurt him: Oh Thomas! I'm so sorry, are you okay?
He took my hand pulling me back to him while still frowning from the pain and with a deep groan in his voice he said: I'm okay, my leg just hurts really bad.
It was twilight now so she was able to see slightly, I looked at his leg that was swollen and touched around the wound gently making him wince: Sorry!
He motioned for me to continue and as I looked over his leg, it looked to be was feverish and swollen.
"Thomas, I know what I need to do to help you. I'll be right back."
"No, At least wait until it is completely light out, I can't have you risking yourself"
I smiled and teased saying: Mr. Parker, I didn't know you cared so much. But in all seriousness, I knew his leg had become infected and without modern medication the risk for him was high.
"I'm not joking around Charlie!"
My face became stern before saying: It's Charlotte and I'm not joking either Thomas, If I don't treat your wound now, you could lose your leg and most likely your life as well. I looked at him for a moment and could tell he was stunned by what I had just said but I didnt have time to assure him, he just sat there in shock with his mouth open as I walked out.
Through my experience working in fine dining and the lavish garnishes that I used crossed with my obsession with medicinal plants, knew exactly what I needed. I boiled water using coconut shells to disinfect cloth and make tea that would replenish his electrolytes and blood cells. Thomas had set up a trap to catch fish when we first arrived, so I was able to make him food as well.
Once came back with everything prepared, I had him drink and eat while I washed my hands the best I could before sitting beside him and with the most reassuring voice I could muster I said: Thomas, this is going to hurt, but I'm going to need you to stay as still as you can, okay?
He shook his head in agreement and motioned for me to start. I handed him a stick to bite on if need be and started cleaning his leg, it was a gash about 3 inches long but looked extremely deep. As I cleaned it, I saw what looked like a broken bone sticking out.
I couldn't help but gasped as I flinched away from it. Thomas knew that it must have been bad and said: What? What is it?
I calmed myself before saying anything: Thomas, what does your leg feel like.
"Um, it hurts, obviously, maybe a little hot as well"
"Right, but what I mean is, does it feel broken?"
Thomas thought for a moment, he winced as he lifted his leg maybe and inch off the ground and back before replying: I don't think so, its a dull ache but it doesn't feel broken.
I stared off a few moments before Thomas snapped his finger in front of my face and said: Not to be rude, but would you mind thinking out loud? I'm starting to feel a little nervous over her.
Sam smiled at him and replied: Okay there's good news and bad news, the good news is that your leg is most likely not broken. I froze staring at him trying to find my words when he frantically yelled: AND THE BAD NEW IS?
I took a deep breath and squinted as I told him: And the bad news is that there is something in your leg, a foreign object and I need to take it out.
Thomas just looked at me with a grave expression, with a stern voice he said: Do what you have to do, just, get it out of my leg. Thomas took a deep breath in and held it as he bit down on the stick and grasped at the sides of his pants tightly as he prepared for the worst. I had to reached partway into his leg to get a hold of the object and yanked, but it didn't budge. He let out a scream that caused me to have cold sweats, but I knew it was now or never, so I yanked again. This time giving it all I could and it popped out, Thomas let out another scream and then passed out from the pain. I cleaned his wound thoroughly, taking advantage of him being passed out and made a poultice of boiled leaves and coconut milk and laying it on the wound. I laid next to him watching him for fever and praying he would be okay.
