I could not believe my eyes. My mother is more serious about this idea of a contract marriage than I assumed.
I am still surprised why she is so serious about me getting married. Maybe it is the mother gang feeling where she wants to have a grandchild at all cost.
Well, I am caught up between two choices. It is either I accept this contract marriage or disappoint my mum by going back on my promise to her.
Worst, I do not seem to know anyone I can confide in this situation except Job And I have decided to be silent about this.
Well, a contract marriage is not as bad as it sounds I dare to believe.
I think I have made up my mind on what I want to do with my life.
I picked up my phone to call my friend, Job.
Just like I expected after not speaking or seeing him for the past two days, he picked up almost immediately.
"hello Job" I started
*Hello Kelvin. What is the problem? I have not seen or heard from you these few days. Hope all is well?" he asked me
" Of course, I am doing just fine. It is just that there are some certain development at the moment between me and my mum" I said to him
"some issues? What is the problem all about?" he asked me
"Well, i just want to tell you that I will be getting married very soon" I said to him to his pleasant surprise.
"you are what!" he exclaimed
"tell me that you are joking" he continued
"I am not joking at all. I will be getting married in three months' time" I said to him, further confirming his thoughts.
"Wow, so who is this lucky lady? Do I know her and why have you not bother to let me know all this while?" he asked me
"it is more complicated than what it appears to be at the moment" I said to him
"I am not having this conversation with you on the phone. Are you at home right now?" he asked me
"I know… I know. I am at home waiting for you" I said to him
"is this lady there with you?" he asked me
"Please do not ask me too many questions. She is not even here" I said to him
"OK bro. I will be with you in a few minutes" he said before hanging up the phone.
I could not wait to get this done over with once and for all. I would have to inform my mum so that we can fix a date for the wedding as soon as possible.

I was still watching a football match when I heard a knock at the door
"Please come in," I said to the person who was knocking on the door.
The door opened and Job, my friend, entered looking truly surprised. He must have more than a thousand questions he intends to ask me at once.
"Hello Job. Please have your seat" I said to him
"Thank you bro" he replied having his seat
"I know that you have a lot of questions on your mind but can we at least have some drinks before we go ahead with this discussion" I suggested.
"OK, Kelvin," he replied.
I stood up to get a drink for both of us. I returned back to the living room ready to have the discussion I was afraid of discussing with Job.
"so tell me more about this your new bride?" he asked me
"OK. Do you remember when I told you that my mum was already arranging a contract marriage between me and a particular lady?" I asked him
"yes, I do but I can remember that you told me that you are never going to buy into that idea" he said to me
"yes, I said that but my mum went to the extreme to the point that I just decided to go with it, at least for the mean time before I find a reason to send the lady back to wherever she is coming from" I said to Job
"and you think it would be as easy as you think?" he asked me
"What do you mean?" I asked him also
"This lady will not just disappear back to the moon just because you want her to or because you no longer want her in your life" he told me.
"I know that it will not be easy but heck! I will find a way to get rid of her when the time comes" I said to him
"I do not think you really know what you are signing up for" he said to me
"Please relax, Job. Everything is under control. I will certainly find my way around this." I said to him
"If you say so, who am I to argue? Meanwhile, what is her name?" he asked me
"uhm… Bella… Bella Pires. That is her name" I said to him
"wow. Do you know her before this time?" he asked again
"I do not think so but my mum seems to like her a lot. I do not know why but I assume it is because she is helping my mother achieve what she has always been looking for" I said to him
"OK, Kelvin. So when are we expecting to hear the wedding bells?" Job asked me
"well, in three months time, we should have finalized the contract marriage" I said to him
"Are you really sure that this is a good idea?" Job asked me a second time
"I do not know what exactly you are thinking, Job, but be rest assured that I do not see this as a big deal. I am just doing this to satisfy my mum and make her feel better so she can stop to disturb me about this marriage stuff" I said to him
"OK, I hope it goes out as planned" Job said to me.
