Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: The Calm Before the Storm

Third-Person POV

Morning light streamed through the windows of the hotel, casting a warm glow over the bustling activity inside. The scent of breakfast wafted through the corridors, a mix of fresh bread, sizzling bacon, and rich coffee. It was a typical morning in the hotel, with guests enjoying their meals and the staff busy with their duties. But for Hsaet, the events of the previous night still weighed heavily on his mind.

He sat at a table near the back of the dining hall, a steaming cup of coffee in hand. His eyes scanned the room, taking in the sight of Toriko and Sunny engaged in their usual banter, while Komatsu, ever the perfectionist, was busy adjusting the placement of utensils on the table. To anyone else, it would seem like just another day, but Hsaet knew better. The encounter with the mysterious man on the balcony had left him on edge, and he couldn't shake the feeling that something was coming.

The man's words echoed in his mind: "This is just the beginning."

Who was he? And what did he want? Hsaet's instincts told him that this was no ordinary thug, but someone with a deeper connection to the shadows that had been looming over him since Madara's appearance. The darkness was closing in, and Hsaet knew he needed to be prepared for whatever came next.

As he sipped his coffee, his thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps approaching. He looked up to see Komatsu standing by the table, a concerned expression on his face.

"Hsaet, are you okay? You've been quiet since last night," Komatsu said, his voice tinged with worry.

Hsaet forced a smile, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. "I'm fine, Komatsu. Just thinking about some things."

Komatsu didn't seem convinced, but he nodded nonetheless. "Well, if you ever want to talk about it, I'm here. We all are."

"Thanks, Komatsu. I appreciate it," Hsaet replied, his tone sincere. He knew Komatsu meant well, but there were some things he couldn't share—not yet, at least.

Before the conversation could continue, Toriko and Sunny approached, both looking eager and ready for whatever the day had in store.

"Morning, Hsaet! You ready for some more adventure today?" Toriko asked, his usual enthusiasm shining through.

Hsaet nodded, though his mind was still partially occupied with the night's events. "Always. What's on the agenda?"

Sunny flipped his hair dramatically, striking a pose. "There's a new rumor going around about a rare ingredient in a nearby forest. It's supposed to be insanely difficult to find, but you know that's our specialty!"

Toriko grinned, clapping Hsaet on the back. "We figured we'd check it out and see if it's worth the trouble. You in?"

Hsaet's eyes narrowed slightly as he considered the offer. On one hand, the idea of hunting down a rare ingredient was exactly the kind of challenge he thrived on. On the other hand, he couldn't ignore the nagging feeling that something else was at play here. The man from last night had been clear: this was just the beginning. Was it possible that this new adventure was somehow connected?

"Yeah, I'm in," Hsaet finally said, his tone decisive. If there was a connection, the best way to find out was to stay close to Toriko and the others. Whatever was coming, he wanted to be ready.

Toriko's grin widened. "That's what I like to hear! Let's gear up and head out!"

As they made their way to the hotel's entrance, Hsaet felt a familiar sense of anticipation building within him. The thrill of the hunt, the challenge of the unknown—this was what he lived for. But beneath that excitement was a steely resolve. He wasn't just hunting for a rare ingredient today; he was hunting for answers.

First-Person POV

We set off into the forest, the trees towering above us like ancient guardians. The air was thick with the scent of earth and foliage, and the ground beneath our feet was soft with moss and fallen leaves. It was the kind of place that felt alive, as if the forest itself was watching us, waiting to see what we would do.

Toriko led the way, his usual confident stride never faltering. Sunny walked beside him, his hair drifting lazily in the breeze, while Komatsu and I followed closely behind. I could see the excitement in Komatsu's eyes—he always got that look when we were on the trail of something new and unknown.

But for me, it was more than just excitement. It was a sense of purpose, a determination to uncover whatever secrets this forest held. I couldn't shake the feeling that this was more than just another hunt. There was something deeper at play here, something that connected to the events of the previous night.

As we moved deeper into the forest, the trees grew thicker, their branches intertwining to form a dense canopy that blocked out most of the sunlight. The air grew cooler, and the sounds of the forest became more muted, as if we were stepping into another world entirely.

It wasn't long before we came across our first clue: a series of deep, claw-like marks gouged into the trunk of a massive tree. Toriko knelt down to examine them, his expression serious.

"These are fresh," he said, his voice low. "Whatever made these marks is still around here somewhere."

Sunny nodded, his hair twitching slightly as he scanned the area. "And it's big. These marks are too deep to be made by anything small."

I knelt beside Toriko, running my fingers along the grooves in the wood. The marks were precise, almost as if they had been made with a blade rather than claws. My Sharingan activated almost instinctively, analyzing the patterns and searching for any signs of chakra. But there was nothing—just the raw, primal power of the creature that had passed through here.

"We should be careful," I said, my tone serious. "Whatever did this is dangerous."

Toriko grinned, standing up and cracking his knuckles. "Dangerous is our specialty, right?"

I couldn't help but smile at his confidence. Toriko had a way of making even the most daunting challenges seem manageable. But as we continued deeper into the forest, I kept my guard up, my senses on high alert.

The path ahead was narrow, the trees crowding in on either side. The ground was uneven, with roots and rocks jutting out at odd angles. It was the kind of terrain that required focus and precision, but that was nothing new for us.

As we walked, I found myself thinking back to the man on the balcony. His words had been cryptic, but there was a clear threat behind them. I had no doubt that he would be back, and when he did, I needed to be ready. But what was he after? And how did it tie into this forest, this hunt?

The deeper we went, the more the sense of foreboding grew. The trees seemed to close in around us, their branches twisted and gnarled. The air was thick with tension, as if the forest itself was holding its breath.

And then, we heard it—a low, rumbling growl that seemed to vibrate through the very earth beneath our feet. We all froze, our eyes scanning the trees for any sign of movement. The growl came again, louder this time, and closer.

Toriko's eyes gleamed with excitement. "Looks like we've found our target."

But as the growl echoed through the forest, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were walking into a trap. The man's words came back to me: "This is just the beginning."

Whatever was waiting for us in this forest, it was more than just a rare ingredient. It was something darker, something that could change everything.

But there was no turning back now. We had come too far, and the only way forward was through.

Third-Person POV

The group pressed on, their senses heightened as they moved through the dense underbrush. The growl continued to rumble through the air, growing louder with each step they took. It was a sound that sent shivers down their spines, but also fueled their determination.

As they approached a small clearing, the source of the growl came into view. Standing in the center of the clearing was a massive creature, easily three times the size of a regular beast. Its fur was a deep, shadowy black, its eyes glowing with an unnatural light. Claws as long as swords protruded from its paws, and its jaws were lined with razor-sharp teeth.

Toriko stepped forward, his body tense and ready for action. "Looks like we've got a real challenge on our hands."

Sunny's hair twitched with excitement, while Komatsu's eyes widened in a mix of awe and fear. Hsaet, however, remained focused, his Sharingan locking onto the creature's every movement.

The creature snarled, its eyes narrowing as it locked onto the group. There was an intelligence in its gaze, a cunning that hinted at something more than just raw animalistic power.

"Be careful," Hsaet warned, his voice low. "This thing isn't just a regular beast. It's been watching us."

Toriko grinned, cracking his knuckles. "Good. I was hoping for a real fight."

With that, the battle began.

The creature lunged at them with a speed that belied its massive size, its claws slicing through the air. Toriko met the attack head-on, his fists glowing with energy as he delivered a powerful punch to the creature's side. The impact sent

shockwaves through the clearing, but the creature barely flinched, its eyes still focused on its prey.

Sunny's hair shot forward, wrapping around the creature's limbs in an attempt to restrain it. But the beast was strong—stronger than anything they had encountered before. It tore through Sunny's hair with ease, its claws raking across the ground as it prepared for another attack.

Hsaet moved with lightning speed, his Sharingan predicting the creature's movements with precision. He darted in and out of the creature's reach, his blades flashing as he targeted its vital points. But no matter how many times he struck, the creature seemed to shrug off the damage, its glowing eyes never losing their focus.

"This thing's tough," Toriko grunted, dodging another swipe of the creature's claws. "We're gonna need to hit it with everything we've got."

Hsaet nodded, his mind racing as he searched for a weakness. The creature was fast, strong, and seemingly impervious to their attacks. But there had to be something—some way to bring it down.

And then, he saw it. A faint glow at the base of the creature's neck, just beneath its thick fur. It was barely visible, but with his Sharingan, Hsaet could see it clearly.

"Toriko, Sunny—aim for its neck!" Hsaet shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos of the battle.

Without hesitation, Toriko and Sunny shifted their focus, their attacks converging on the creature's neck. The beast roared in pain as their combined efforts finally broke through its defenses, the glow at its neck flickering and fading.

With one final, powerful strike, Toriko delivered a blow that sent the creature crashing to the ground. It let out a final, pitiful whine before going still, its body dissolving into shadowy mist.

The group stood there, catching their breath as the mist dissipated into the air. The battle had been fierce, but they had come out on top. Yet, as the last traces of the creature faded away, Hsaet couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning.

The darkness was still out there, waiting. And Hsaet knew that he needed to be ready for whatever came next.
