Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Fiery Skillet Restaurant

Being an agent for twenty five years, Kael hadn't thought about having a family or taking a wife. The only daughter he had was a fifteen years old daughter who had been in the orphanage for most of her lives.

Her mother was a whore he interloped with several years ago. He only learnt about his daughter some months back when he met up with the woman at the bar.

She claimed to have been watching over his daughter despite her being in the orphanage. And that she would have adopted her back, if only she had the money to take care of her.

But that wasn't the main issue as he later discovered that his daughter - Dora, was suffering from some kind of illness. The orphanage tried taking her to the hospital, but she needed a quick surgery which cost about ten thousand dollars.

Dora's mum, who heard of this couldn't just stand and watch her daughter die, she had to find a way. So she contacted several people, those who might have known Kael's location. But so far, it proved to be futile, as no one knew exactly where Kael had came from, or who he actually was.

It was the same as when she had gotten pregnant to when she had given birth to Dora. She tried locating Kael during that period of time, but unfortunately, he was nowhere to be found, and no one seem to know anything about him.

It was because of this that Leah abandoned her daughter Dora in the orphanage, hoping they will take care of her, better than she would.

At the time, Kael was on a mission, his first ever mission after joining the agency. He hooked up with Leah during their stay at a hotel, but then he left for another country the next day. So he honestly had no idea about someone having a daughter for him.

It was only years after, which was several months back, when Kael had traveled back to that country, that he came to meet Leah again. And that was how he got to know about Dora and her illness.

Unfortunately, Kael had just spent most of his savings into purchasing some properties in that country. But in a bid to save his daughter, he had to ask his colleagues at the agency for help, those among which include the board of directors.

In one or the other, he managed to get the money, and Dora's surgery was immediately carried out, which had ultimately saved her from dying.

He never had time for his own personal life, but now that he's out of the agency, he realised it wasn't too late to start something.

As he wandered the streets like a stranger in a familiar land, lost in own thoughts, he didn't know when he arrived at his friend's restaurant which had the name; The Fiery Skillet written boldly on its signpost.

"Kael!" Jax called out as he saw him appear in his restaurant with heavy luggages in his hands. "What happened? I thought you were joking when you called. What do you mean you lost your job?"

"It's a long story, Jax. Right now I need a meal and some sleep." Kael answered before he was directed inside one of the inner rooms in the restaurant.

Jax's workers who had caught ears of Kael losing his job, couldn't help but wonder what had happened. They knew he was some kind of military personnel who would often visit Jax since they were friends.

But to hear that he lost his job, it had raised a lot of curiosity from each of them, as they wondered what exactly led to such calamity.

Jax had then instructed one of them to bring in served meals and drinks for both him and Kael. Within some few minutes, Kael had been served his favourite dish; chicken feet with a touch of soju drink.

The worker had left after bringing in the meal, but stayed by the doorside to listen to their conversations.

Once after taking a few bites of the chicken feet, Jax had decided to speak up. "Will you tell me what happened already?"

"Hold on, let me take a little sip of this drink." Kael said as he took a big gulp of his soju drink.

Afterwards, he went on to explain how the board of directors had called him this morning to talk about the huge amount of money that got stolen that very morning.

He explained how they traced the location of the stolen money and it turned out to be found in his account, hours after his phone went missing.

He revealed how each one of them had looked suspicious when he was falsely accused by the chairman. He furthered revealed that the whole exploit was planned out by the chairman who was doing this to have his cousin; Ryker take up the position of the CSO in the agency.

He revealed many other things he found suspicious, but stood firmly by his words of being falsely accused, and framed by his bosses at the agency.

"Sorry I have to say this, but this sounds similar to a drama I watched some days back. So your boss had you framed and fired, so as to have his cousin take up your position as the next CSO. Who in his right sense does that? Shouldn't you report this or something?" Jax commented.

"Reporting without any evidence won't do me any good right now. I have to find all evidence pointing to them having a hand in my false accusation, but I'm sure they won't have all their evidences flying around. So it might be difficult and probably take a long time before I could gather them all." Kael answered.

"Well, till then you can always stay with me. You're always welcome to your home." Jax said with a smile.

"No, I don't want to inconvenient you. I'll rent an apartment of my own." Kael replied. "But during my time here, can I work at your restaurant? I've always wanted to know how to cook and prepare delicious meals like you do."

"Sure, you're free to work here. I'll inform my workers about it and make sure you get fitted in." Jax said, willingly happy to take Kael in.

But at that moment, a certain screen had popped up above Kael's face that will change his life forever.
