Chapter 9 - Person In The Mirror

Valljan stared at the black bordered mirror in the inn room he rented while in Thanalan. He had been visiting the Sultana after uncovering some books from the Great Gubal Library - one of which included her full family tree and specific details about the Sil'dihn Subterrane. They spoke for hours before he retired for the night. There he stood, eyes fixed on his neck - where a small red crystal sat, forever a reminder of his failure in Mhach. While a citizen of Mhach, he fought for the people of Vylbrand - the people of La Noscea. People claimed him as the 'Prince Of The People', alas he never saw himself as much. Valljan Rehw-Nong was a Viera who was born of the wood and lived the Green Word not a Prince. His eyes trailed up to his face, the reflection staring back - his eyes had become golden once arriving in current day Eorzea. He internally cursed himself for letting the gods care for his soul during that time, the closeness to divinity had changed more than just his eye colour. He spoke more like them, his eyes and hair changed to gold and he was sure that if he were to bleed, silver would pour out - not the familiar blue that it once was.

The knock on his door broke him out of his safe hate filled stupor. "Darling?" Oh right, his husband was waiting to go out for dinner that evening - the Sultana had invited them. Valljan still had yet to respond when his door opened. In walked a long red haired Miqo'te with red eyes to match, he was dressed in Sharlayan attire, and a golden ring glowed on his left hand. The Miqo'te looked rather familiar, as though copy of our favourite Scion. "Would you rather go home? I can always make-" Valljan cut him off "Its alright Raha...just some unpleasant memories..." Valljan tore his eyes away from the mirror and pulled on his appointed jacket. "Back then, would you have referred to me as 'The Peoples Prince'?" Raha smiled softly at Valljan "What brought this up?" No answer. Raha thought for a moment "If I wasn't who I was at that point in time, perhaps. However, every ruler, no matter the title needs his consort yes? This Exarch's consort just has a regal title is all." A small smile etched its place upon Valljan's face at that comment. "Perhaps so..."
