"You may have a seat my dear, you're very welcome" Said Kess, who watched Vivien taking one of the seats to relax herself.
"Greetings,Mr." She said faintly. She wasn't ready to increase her voice to sound like one who was playing because she was still not happy with him.
As the both of them sat, silence filled the air. Kess maintained his gaze on her while she directed her gaze on Kess's table which was made of gold.
She was now beginning to understand the kind of luxurious life he was leading.
She imagined the total number of persons he must have caused pains to, and wondered why rich and powerful men go to such an extreme point of having bad names before the world.
She was really pitying him. She still doesn't know why any lawyer in the country refused to stand for him. She just knew that something strange is wrong somewhere because such kind of news has never been heard before in the U.K. that lawyers would refuse to defend a person.
"Then something must be wrong. What is this that these dudes know that I don't know?. Yes, Kess is rich and he should be chased after by many of these lawyers due to what they would surely get and benefit massively from him. But here, the reverse is the case," Vivien said to herself.
After some few moments of observing strict silence, their voices began to echo in the office.
"So, to what do I owe this visit of yours?" Kess asked, while looking at her face.
He hoped that her visit would be of something positive for him, because he never expected her to come directly to his business area.
"Just calm your mind down. I'm here to discuss your court cases with you" She informed.
"Okay. That's great. I'm listening" He complimented.
"I know that I'm not supposed to come straight here to you in such a manner. However, the current situation on ground now demands for it" She informed.
As she spoke, she rolled her eyes countless times around his office. She saw several hidden cameras that were kept at strategic locations, which was meant to keep records of those entering and leaving his office. Just for his security purposes.
"You are free to say whatever you wish to say dear, in any manner of your choice.
Meanwhile before we continue, let's go to the canteen, where you would refresh yourself while talking," Kess said.
"No thanks. I'm comfortable right here"
"Alright then, let's ride on," Kess agreed.
"I have been hearing that no lawyer in the country wished to defend you. Why?" She asked.
He was quiet for a while, as he was wondering why she was asking him. In all, he has no option but to respond because he doesn't know where his help would come from.
He took a deep sigh, thought of some things within a short space of seconds, then proceeded to answer her.
"It's really a long story my dear. It's not something I would like to say out publicly but because you have decided to ask me, I just need to say it.
Hmm, honestly speaking, I had lead a bad life, a doubled face life which I never thought that it would affect me"
"Can you be explicit enough for me to understand you please?" She demanded.
"I'm like a dark lord in business, and I have successfully crumbled many rising businesses, through different means." Kess stressed.
"Is this why no lawyer wishes to defend you in court?" She asked.
"I don't really know, dear. I can't explain" He said.
"While you were on your adventure of suppressing other people's businesses, I'm very sure that you killed your victims?" She asked.
"Not really dear. I have never killed anyone before"
"I don't believe you either," She said.
"I'm not expecting you to believe me. I have lead a doubled face life and I don't think anyone who knew me, would ever in their lives, trust me"
"Do you have strong competitors whom you think would also try to pull you down?" Vivien asked him.
"Yes, it's possible that I have, but I don't know them".
"Who are those suing you to court, and what are their intentions?" She asked.
"Many people are suing me in court, but one man whom I know very well seems to be the king among them" He highlighted.
"Hire me as your lawyer. I will try my best to do what I'm trained to do" Vivien requested.
Kess was shocked.
"I don't understand you dear. Are you a lawyer?" He asked.
"Yes, I am".
"What!. How?. When?. Like, since when did you become an advocate?" He asked surprisingly and shockingly.
"I have been a lawyer since last month".
"How?"
"I have been studying law through a part time program, even before I relocated fully here to London..
Please, stop asking me too many questions. Are you hiring me or not?. Or you want to rot in jail for the rest of your life?" Vivien asked, while putting on a strict face.
Kess was greatly touched by her words. He saw might and eagerness in her, and he doesn't see her as one who is trying to lie or force her skill on him.
He has no choice.
"Yes, my dear. Please, be my barrister" He anticipated.
"There is just one issue on ground that you need to take care of for me" Vivien informed.
She knew the kind of situation that she was taking herself into and because of this, she needed to spell things out for him, since she was about to risk her peace of mind for him.
"What's the issue on ground?" He asked with an interesting face.
"You have to secure my immediate family for me. You will do so, by first relocating my mother and my siblings to London's main city and equipping a mobile security team in and around their building. This is because I would soon be the main target of your enemies and when this happens I don't want my family to be affected but as for me, I can take care of myself" She said.
"Is there anything else you would want me to do for you?" Kess asked.
