As Thorndyke carried Gwen inside the Academy, the corridors echoed with the sound of his footsteps and the occasional grunts that escaped her lips. They passed by other cadets and soldiers, who looked on with a mixture of curiosity and concern at the scene unfolding in front of them.
After a few minutes of walking, Thorndyke finally reached his dorm and placed Gwen on the bed, gently setting her down. He knelt next to her, his gaze focused on her pain-stricken features.
"I'll get the healer. Just... try to stay still," Thorndyke said, his voice soft.
He didn't wait for her response as he quickly got up and disappeared out of the door, leaving her alone on the bed.
Gwen tried to take a deep breath, but her body protested, causing her to wince in pain. She closed her eyes again, trying to focus on something other than the burning sensation that coursed through her every cell.
