Suddenly, Professor Longbottom's voice interrupted the silence, a hint of concern in his tone, "Cadet Evegheden, this process is not without risks. We should consider a more controlled environment to–"
But before he could finish, Derik interjected with a dismissive wave of his hand.
"Oh, come on, Professor!" he said, his voice brimming with impatience, "This is an integral part of the curriculum. We can't just coddle the students forever. Gwen is strong enough to handle this."
Gwen knitted her eyebrows, trying to drown out the rest of her environment and focus solely on Zyre and their bond.
"Little Venom..." Thorndyke's pleading voice echoed in her mind, making her falter for a bit. Her focus wavered for a moment, her mind briefly pulled from the task at hand.
"I've got this," she thought back to him, not quite believing it herself.
Zyre, feeling her internal struggle, nudged her gently with his snout.
