Gwen widened her eyes as realization slowly hit her.
"The disappearances..." she looked at Thorndyke who nodded, confirming her suspicions.
The Fae were responsible for the disappearances?
Gwen's frown deepened, "Why are they doing this? What do they want?"
Thorndyke shrugged, "Your guess is as good as mine. They don't exactly talk to me, you know."
"Wow, what a surprise," she rolled her eyes as she couldn't help but throw in a sarcastic comment, which Thorndyke had come to expect.
He shrugged again. "They're not really known for their conversational skills."
"Yeah, I figured that out when they tried to make me their lunch."
Thorndyke's jaw tightened at her words, a flicker of irritation crossing his face.
"That's not something you should be joking about," he said in a gruff tone, his eyes darkening.
Gwen rolled her eyes again.
"Lighten up, Thorndyke. It's not like I've never been in danger before."
