Gwen woke up in a familiar room
She blinked once, twice. Then a third time for good measure.
She was at the infirmary again. Again.
She groaned. Why did she always end up here every time she got in trouble?
"You're awake."
The voice made her turn her head to see that Thorndyke was sitting by her bed. His eyes flicked over her frame, looking for any signs of injury.
"How do you feel?" he asked, his voice gruff but laced with concern.
With his jaw set, dark circles under his eyes and his messy hair, he looked tired.
"Like I got attacked by killer fairies," she said, trying to sound nonchalant even though her head was still throbbing.
She gingerly touched her temple, feeling a slight bump there. She probably banged her head somewhere when she passed out.
She looked back at Thorndyke, her eyes falling on the slight stubble that shadowed his jawline. He needed a shave.
