Chapter 2 - Chapter Two: Emma's Dilemma

"Emma?" Laura's voice was soft and filled with so much concern. "What does it say?"

Emma's mouth felt dry as she looked up, her eyes wide with so much shock. "It says... It says, I'm the heiress to my father's company in New York City, I didn't even know he was alive or had a company, Laura! I don't even know him!"

Laura gasped her eyes widened in disbelief. "Oh my God, Emma! That's... that's huge! You're a heiress? To a company? In New York? This is incredible."

Laura clapped her hands together, her excitement barely contained. "This is incredible! Think about it, Emma! You could be inheriting an entire company. This could change your life!."

Emma's shoulder slumped, I don't even know what I'd be stepping into. My father left me, and my mom left us. And now...now because he's dead, I'm supposed to pick up the pieces of a life I've never known?"

Laura's face softened, and she held Emma, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "I understand that you're hurt, Emma. Are you still grieving your mom and this news? It's just a cruel twist of fate. But think about it's also an opportunity to get answers to all your unanswered questions. You might find out more about your father and his side of the story, or at least make peace with your past."

Emma shook her head, tears welling in her eyes. " I've made peace with not having a father. I've lived with it for years. And now, after losing my mom, I'm just not ready to dredge up all this old pain."

Buster watched from the corner of the room, his brown eyes full of concern. He padded over to Emma and nudged her gently with his nose. Emma looked down, her mind wavered as she stroked Buster's soft fur.

"See? Even Buster thinks you should give it a try," Laura said with a gentle laugh. "He can sense your sadness. Maybe something is waiting for you in New York City. Something that could make things a little bit better."

Emma sighed deeply, "I just don't know if I can have the strength for this right now. It feels like an overwhelming burden, not a chance to start over."

Laura's tone grew more persuasive.

"Emma, you've always been strong, even when things are tough. You've handled so much already just think, if you go to New York, you might discover things about your family, and about yourself, that could bring you some closure. Don't let this let this opportunity slip away because of old pain and anger."

Emma's heart ached with the indecision. She glanced around the living room, she was going to miss this apartment. It had been her home since her mom passed away. Having to move in with Laura was so easy she had already made this place home for herself.

"I'll go alright, " Emma said finally, her voice tinged with sadness. "But only if you will come with me. I can't do this alone."

Laura's eyes lit up with relief and so much joy. "Of course, Emma! I'd love to go with you. But I need to tie up some loose ends here first. I promise I will join you in New York as soon as I can."

Emma, nodded, with a grateful smile, breaking through with tears. Buster, sending the change in Emma's mood, leaped up and licked her face, his tail wagging furiously. Emma laughed through her tears hugging him close.

"Alright, Buster, I guess we're going to New York," Emma said, her voice trembling with a mix of excitement and anxiety.

Laura grinned and started dancing around the living room with Buster, the two of them had so much fun dancing together. The human girl and her dog.

Emma watched them dancing, she smiled and began wondering what might be awaiting her.

Despite her emotional turmoil, the idea of facing a new chapter of her life with Laura and Buster in it offered some hope and comfort to her.

"I'll make sure to handle everything here before heading out," Laura said. "We'll get everything sorted out, and then we'll face New York together. Maybe it will turn out to be a fresh start."

Emma's heart felt lighter as she watched her friend so excited. "Thank you, Laura. I don't know what I'll do without you."

Laura stopped dancing and walked over to Emma, pulling her into a warm hug. " You don't have to do this alone , we are in this togather."

As Emma embraced her friend, she thought about her journey to New York, what if it wasn't just all about claiming her inheritance , she just hoped she will find the answers she looking for.

Laura pulled out from the hug first and said, " This is a big celebration moment, this is huge for you Emma, so young lady, go in there and take off those sweaty clothes. Put on something fresh. Come down stairs let's party. It's Friday alright!"

Emma stood up from the couch , heading to her room to have her shower, while Laura with to the kitchen to prepare dinner.

While, Emma was heading to her room, her thoughts were conflicting, she didn't really know if she was ready to take this decision in her life. Her father was someone, she had no plans of forgiving so easily. Emma knew she had a kind-hearted but pain of being abandoned by her dad struck her so had.

She remembered her mother always being defensive of her father and had rarely spoken about him. Her mother's sister, Beatrix had told her that her father had abandoned her mother when Emma was still an infant. Emma never got an explanation of why he did that, her mother will never tell her. Obviously, he was a cruel man.

"Well, enough of all this already, I need to drink my wine and stop thinking about some good old dead nigga, who never cared about me but himself." Emma said to herself as she slide into the bathroom and started taking her bath.

Laura was making pasta, her favorite, and she didn't want to met it cold.
