Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Aftermath

Word of Caden's metamorphosis quickly swept around the castle and beyond. The staff's once-frightened and dreadful whispers changed to ones of wonder and interest. Elara, the bride who had gone missing, had returned, and the once-dreaded criminal had been spared. It was considered a veritable miracle.

The actual labor had only just begun for Elara and Caden, though.

Caden was standing next to Elara, facing the assembled council of advisers, as the early morning light spilled through the big hall's windows. The tension in the room increased as the council members, many of whom had faithfully supported Caden before his fall from grace, watched with a mix of hope and cynicism.

Elara gave Caden a comforting grip on the hand and a grin. She was aware how hard this was for him. It was no easy task to face the people he had previously led, knowing the damage he had inflicted. However, she was also aware that this was an essential phase in their quest for atonement.

Taking a deep breath, Caden spoke before the council in a calm but regretful tone. "I am aware that I have done horrible things that are irreversible. Although I cannot change the past, I can assure you that I will dedicate the remainder of my life to atoning for the pain I have caused.

The members of the council looked at each other, their emotions incomprehensible. At last the oldest, a guy with silver hair and a grim countenance, raised his voice. We have all witnessed the gloom that engulfed Your Highness, and we have suffered together with you as a result. However, we have also seen firsthand the strength of the light that has brought you back to us. Although we will offer you this opportunity to show yourself, you must earn our trust.

Caden gave a somber nod. "I comprehend. I'll go above and beyond to earn back your trust.

Caden made Elara feel a surge of pride. Here he stood, a man formerly feared for his ruthlessness, confessing his wrongdoings to people he had harmed. His willingness to take on this problem head-on was evidence of his inner strength and his intense love for her.

After the council meeting, Caden and Elara were abandoned in the great hall. Caden let out a deep breath and ran his hand through his hair as the day's events began to weigh hard on him. "I never thought I would be standing here, pleading with you for forgiveness."

Elara moved in closer, encircling him in a reassuring embrace. Caden, you're on the right track. In due course, they will realize it.

His eyes gleamed with appreciation as he glanced down at her. "Elara, I don't deserve you."

With a grin on her face, she expressed her love for him. "Caden, you deserve to be happy. Both of us do. And together, we'll locate it.

The staff of the castle watched them leave the hall, their hearts thumping with something as they saw Caden and Elara together. In a world long enveloped in darkness, the love and tenacity of the pair served as a ray of hope.

However, not everyone was prepared to let go and go on. Caden and Elara faced opposition as they moved through the castle: aristocrats who openly doubted his motives, servants who avoided looking directly at Caden, and guards who spoke behind his back. It was obvious that the road to salvation would be a challenging one, paved with uncertainties and barriers.

Caden's fatigue was visible to Elara during their meal together in the royal dining hall one evening. He was suffering from the weight of his history and the continual scrutiny, so she felt she had to take action to improve his spirits.

Elara remarked in a lighthearted and fun tone, "I've been thinking." "We require a vacation from all of this gravity. What if we took a day off and did something enjoyable?

With a little smile pulling at the edges of his lips, Caden lifted an eyebrow. Enjoyable? I may not be able to recall the sensation of that.

Elara smiled, mischievous gleams in her eyes. Then, it's past due that you were informed. What if the two of us went on a small excursion together?

The stiffness in Caden's shoulders subsided as his smile expanded. "A journey, eh? Where would you suggest we go?

Elara drew closer, her voice becoming a whispery plot. "In the castle grounds, there's a secret garden that I used to visit during my first time here. It's serene and lovely, and I believe it would be the ideal spot for us to unwind and temporarily forget about everything else.

There was a rare flicker of joy in Caden's eyes as his demeanor relaxed. "A garden hidden from view? Why didn't I know about this earlier?

Elara laughed and felt a wave of nostalgia pass through her. "I'll lead the way, but it's well hidden."

The following day, Elara and Caden managed to evade their royal responsibilities by leaving the castle covertly and heading for the secret garden. Even though the trail was overgrown and hardly visible, Elara confidently led the way, using her memories as a guide.

Caden whistled softly in gratitude when they finally arrived to the garden. The yard was a serene haven surrounded by blooming flowers, thick foliage, and the calming sound of a nearby stream. The darkness that had engulfed the rest of the planet had not touched this spot.

Elara observed with a sense of astonishment on his face as Caden soaked in the beauty all about him. She saw the tightness leave him, the weight of his history temporarily pushed aside.

With a sincere smile, Caden turned to face her and remarked, "This place is incredible." "How were they found?"

With a cheeky sparkle in her eyes, Elara shrugged. "The first time I was here, I happened to stumble upon it by chance. It became into a small haven where I could go to unwind and be myself.

With a softened gaze, Caden stared at her. "Elara, I appreciate you bringing me here. I feel like my breathing is returning.

They laughed, spoke, and even had a little water battle beside the stream as they enjoyed the small pleasures of life in the garden for the remainder of the day. For the first time in a long time, Caden gave himself permission to unwind, to let go of the darkness that had previously overwhelmed him, and to just be in the moment with Elara.

Caden and Elara sat under a big oak tree as the sun started to drop, illuminating the garden in a cozy golden glow. The day served as a reminder that despite everything they had seen, there was beauty in the world and that they could still see more promising times ahead.

With a stern yet loving smile, Caden turned to face Elara. Even though I've mentioned it before, Elara, you should know how much you mean to me. I now have another chance to be the guy I want to be, not the monster I turned into, thanks to you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, no matter what, even though I have no idea what the future contains.

Elara stretched out to hold his hand, her heart exploding with emotion. "Caden, I want that too. Together, we'll tackle whatever comes our way. Together, we are more powerful.

The future didn't seem as scary as it did when they sat there holding hands. They had already accomplished so much and with each With one another at their sides, they were prepared to take on any obstacles that were ahead. Bathed in the gentle light of the setting sun, the garden came to represent their tenacity and love—a love that would blossom in the light after surviving the dark with one another at their sides.
