Chapter 21 - Angel

Dimitri's eyes widened when he realised that his magic was out of his control. Dimitri possessed wind magic. Usually, it was used to deflect enemy attack, it wasn't the strongest offensive magic like fire.

But Dimitri was different, his power was so strong that he could use it as offensive magic which was unheard of. He was able to summon tornadoes, suck the air right out of his enemies' lungs, and blast them with enough force that their limbs were torn apart.

Even with such enormous powers, he wasn't a tyrant. He mostly kept to himself in the mage tower, secluded from the world. The only time he went out was to help fellow refugees and orphans.

The owner of the orphanage might have been cruel to him but those children were always kind, they helped as much as they could.

He saw a blast of wind come out of him. This never happened before so he didn't know how to control it. Before he knew it, the woman in front of him fell to her knees crying at the top of her lungs.

She covered her face with her shaky arms and realised that her face was disfigured. If Adeline saw this scene she would think she got off easy. In the novel, he was so powerful he could kill someone with just a flick of the finger leaving them no chance to defend themselves.

Her shrieks got the attention of the guards nearby. Knowing his position in the empire he started to worry. He was nothing but a deadweight to the empire, forget prison, he would directly be banished or executed. He didn't know if he could safely escape if he ran from here. He was pretty short for his age and malnourished.

"The screams were coming from there!"

*crash*

One of the guards bumped into the dumpster on the way into the alley.

"Get it together! If our boss finds out that we're drunk-"

The guards in this area didn't care about the wellbeing of the citizens. They were stationed in the lowest of the low places with meagre salaries. What they wanted was to collect bribes and stay drunk all the time to escape their miserable lives.

Dimitri was sure that this was the end. He couldn't accept this turn of events. He didn't mean to hurt her. He didn't want any of this. He just... Wanted to be free from this torture. He wanted to go back home to the warm embrace of his parents.

Tears immediately fell down his face stained with mud. Even if he wiped it he'd stay dirty. He hated himself and everything around him at this moment. As the footsteps drew closer he gave up the last glimmer of faith he had left.

"Who-" He felt someone grab his hand. Just who was this short figure? He couldn't see their face, it was covered by a black cloak.

"Shhhh!"

Adeline quickly grabbed Dimitri and ran. She didn't go too far, she decided to hide in a corner. She guessed that the owner would send the guards in their direction, so she decided to hide in a nook hoping that they'd just run past them.

He felt some wind come at them blowing her hood off. Under the moonlight, he saw her beautiful pink hair. It was pretty eye-catching. She quickly pulled the hood back on.

"You-"

"Shh, don't make a sound!"

Her childish voice made it hard for him to take her seriously, but those nearing footsteps were enough to shut him up.

"She said they went this way?"

"Who knows? I couldn't hear a thing over her sobs."

They didn't take that woman seriously at all. They went in the direction she pointed but they were not interested in actually conducting a thorough search.

Once they left, Adeline swiftly looked left and right to see if the coast was clear. Dimitri on the other had felt like he was having an otherworldly experience.

Just who was this angel who came to see him? He was never a religious person, he didn't believe in any Goddess or the holy temple. But she seemed like an angel descended from heaven solely to save him.

"Now, to take care of the 'problem'."

She grabbed him and dragged him to the 'scene of the crime'. The owner seemed to finally get ahold of herself, she calmed herself down but that was quickly thrown out the window once she spotted the perpetrator.

"You!" She almost lunged at him but Aaron and Alaric quickly held her back.

Seeing the two new figures Dimitri couldn't help but grow wary. Who were these people? Even though he just met Adeline, and even though she was much younger he instinctively hid behind her.

"He can't be convicted if there's no evidence of the crime..." She smiled.

"Are you going to kill her, Linny?!" Aaron tried his best not to shout. He was forced to follow Adeline back to this place because she threatened him. What happened to his sweet innocent sister, he couldn't help but wipe his invisible tears.

"Hey! She won't do that..." Alaric looked at her suspiciously, "Would she?"

Adeline was at a loss for words, just what was her stupid brother thinking? She wouldn't kill someone! She was just a child!

A bright white glow emerged from her hands which immediately healed all of her scars. If there are no wounds, there is no crime. How was she going to get him arrested? Adeline smirked with satisfaction. The Goddess finally did one right thing.
