He thought over some things, the Duke was targeting him, not Adeline. He wouldn't dare to touch her, she was the daughter of the Marquess of course.
He should put some distance between them, if he was in danger he knew he could protect himself, but he couldn't say for certain he could protect her. He was not that strong enough yet.
"I think you should stop being near me. It would be for the best." He proposed solemnly.
"What?!" She couldn't believe what she was hearing.
His eyes softened, but his tone remained firm. "Their target is me, Adeline. They won't be going out of their way to hurt you. The reason I came with you was to keep you safe. And that is exactly what I plan on doing."
Adeline's heart twisted as she took in his words. "So your idea of keeping me safe is to… Leave me?" She shook her head, a fire igniting in her eyes. "No, Dimitri. You're wrong."
