That concludes the test, I ordered the rest to join in the attack. The lizard was quickly overwhelmed and within a few minutes only bones were left. We continue on the journey, the forest here was tamed thr true wildlands were much further ahead. If I'm correct there should be a city not far from here and the wildlands where the actual monsters are should be beyond that.
I don't even know what kinds of monsters are there just that there are monsters. The information i get from eating the brain did provide the full information, most likely he didn't know much about the monsters while he was alive.
Three more days had past and the city came into view. We tried to went around it, not wanting to aggro the city guard. Cities are huge so in the end we couldn't really avoid human settlements completely. We did went for the more depopulate part of the city.
The place we did cross was more of a town than city, we were tired, hungry and thirsty. Not wanting to waste our time on the town city we sped through it. We were a total of twenty seven rats, it was simply not possible for us to be completely unnoticed.
Some people did saw us and most just ignored us, some didn't. Five kids were running towards us with sticks and stone on hand. The smaller ones couldn't run fast enough to escape them, a confrontation was comming.
The biggest of the kids was just over thirteen years old, the smallest looks to be arround six. The could be much older or younger it was hard to just people's age base on looks, especially when your a rat.
I have my morals so I won't kill them but I need to teach them fear, I picked up one of the bigger ratling and threw it at the face of the kid in the front, my arms were strong enough to easily throw them over fiveteen meters far, I'm likely strong enough to throw them twice or even thrice as far but there was no need to and would likely recieve damage if i did so.
The ratling hit the face of the kid hard, I immediately ordered to make it bit his temples, before the kid could react I threw another ratling at him. The kid was in full panic mode and while the others were trying to help the one in trouble I threw all the ratlings at them, they were all ordered to bite and after a few bites scram. They did as ordered and the kids were crying in pain, they did not expect that. Go find something else to do, kids shouldn't spend there time killing rat or other small animals, thats how serial killers are made.
Before the adults are involved we ran towards the wilderness, towards the untamed forest where monsters resides. I need my ratlings to be strong enough to stop the rat invasion. For that we will need to kill and eat alot of the monsters, we don't have much time left we need to be quick.
Around half a kilometre from the town there was a fortress, a fortified encampment with many soldiers stationed there. It was likely to be the bulwark against the monsters of the forest. They have walls made of wood and stone to protect themselves, it was not the case of having walls covering the entire forest. A few outposts were placed ro make sure no monsters slip in, looks like they don't have enough resources to fence and wall the entire forest.
There are alot of trees here but actually using them to build wall to cover the entire border was likely too much work. I don't have a clue, just making sense of what I'm seeing here, for all i know some great project to walled off the monsters could be taking place somewhere and just haven't reach this part.
They post most of their fighting men here in the border against he monsters of the forest, they would be too late to protect the town and city from the rat invasion, that will come form the opposite side. Even if they did respond immediately the farm wouldn't survive and famine will follow.
If the rats didn't kill them hunger will, most of the farms are connected through the rat cave. All they have to do was eat the crops. Fighting monsters was easy you just kill them but hunger that a different thing all together.
Too bad I can't just go and tell the people of the rat invasion, wonder how that will turn out. You know I'm gonna do it just to see how they would respond.
