Chapter 8 - Status and Developments

"Status," Lightcast exclaimed with excitement, though he hadn't done much that would typically prompt any major changes—or had he? That question lingered briefly in the back of his mind before dissipating as the first window popped up.

[Do you accept: (Yes) (No) (Decide later)]

Lightcast was surprised by the many sudden changes but didn't take long to decide. He quickly selected "Decide later"—a reflex action. Although he didn't need to press anything, as the system would register his thoughts, it was only logical to delay the decision until he had more information and could put the pros and cons against each other, maybe if he made his decision when he was better informed it might be very beneficial.

Also he noticed that the notifications were suspicious like they hide or hint at something, one is an warning while the other one says advice instead of warning, "I guess the warning is obviously what it says it is, but the advice has some deeper meaning to it I will also have to uncover later."

Reviewing his status, he noticed that his new name was already displayed. He also realized that his HP had increased by 10 points, and his Will had automatically upgraded by 1 point. The rest of his base stats remained unchanged.

The characteristics, however, had five new entries. After analyzing them, Lightcast recognized that they did infact align with his feelings and thoughts, at least to some extent. It then occurred to him that these changes might explain why those people in the guild hall had been eyeing him.

"I mean, I gained the 'Dangerous' and 'Ready to fight' characteristics," he realized. Since he already reflected on his experiences for a while now, Lightcast tried to pinpoint when he had acquired each characteristic.

"First of all I didn't notice any notifications if there were any, that obviously makes it harder to identify the sources. My guess is I gained 'Ready to fight' from watching the fight in the city, 'Dangerous' when I thought about how I've felt like the most dangerous person at times, and 'Thirsty for Power' probably when I thought about the possibility of becoming a monster with a power system. As for 'Observant,' it could have developed either during the fight or when I entered the guild and noticed all those people in the hall... Wait, now that I think about it, the characteristic was probably already enhanced when I stepped into the building—no, even before that...

That means I gained it while watching the fight. The only one left would be a'Unpredictable' it might have emerged as a cumulative result of the people I met not being able to figure out my next move or who I am... If that's true, it changes things drastically. It means other people can also effect or even influence my characteristics. That's dangerous for sure, or at least it feels like that for now."

He realized the potential danger of this fact and what it entails, so he pondered about the implications.

At this point a little more than an hour had passt, and Lightcast was still deep in his inner analysis when a knock came at the door.

"I'm sorry to interrupt; may I come in? The guild sent me to support you," a voice called out from the other side.
