Finally, I crossed my arms, trying to steady my nerves. "Let's just... get through this, alright?"
Mark didn't respond right away. When he finally turned back to me, his expression was unreadable, a mix of frustration and something else I couldn't quite place.
"Fine," he said, his voice low.
I exhaled, the weight of the day settling heavily on my shoulders. This wouldn't be easy for either of us, but at least we were on the same page about one thing: we had to survive this together, no matter how much we hated it.
For now, that would have to be enough.
He glared at me momentarily, then turned away, heading toward the bathroom.
"I'll be back in a few," he muttered, leaving the room in a tense silence.
I stood there, alone, my thoughts swirling in the quiet space. There was no escaping the discomfort, the uncertainty. All of this was only going to get more complicated from here.
