Chapter 29 - DIFFERENT LIGHT

I woke to soft shuffling and the faint scent of Mark's aftershave lingering in the air. Blinking groggily, I pushed myself up on one elbow just in time to see Mark emerge from the bathroom, fully dressed in a neatly pressed shirt and tailored pants. His hair was still damp from his morning routine, but it was styled in its usual, carefully maintained way.

He glanced over at me; his expression unreadable but lacking the usual edge of irritation.

"Morning," he said, his tone neutral but unexpectedly polite.

"Morning," I replied, sitting up straighter, unsure if I was still dreaming.

Mark didn't linger on pleasantries, instead reaching for his watch on the dresser. "You should get ready," he said, glancing at me briefly before slipping the watch onto his wrist.

I frowned, trying to shake off my sleepiness. "Ready? I thought we were keeping things... separate today."
