The quiet hum of the car engine was oddly soothing as I stared out the window, watching the cityscape pass by in a blur. Linda sat beside me, calm and composed as ever, her attention shifting between me and the scenery outside. Sitting behind the wheel, John navigated smoothly through the morning traffic, his expression as stoic as always.
Mr Rowley echoed in my head: "We don't want to transform you into anyone you're not, Abigail." I knew he meant it sincerely, yet I couldn't shake the feeling of stepping into someone else's life entirely.
How ironic to dress up and play a role, and still be assured that I wouldn't lose myself in the process. I gave Linda a small smile.
