Chapter 49 - Kragnirs' Defeat

The war raged like a tempest, its fury unleashing chaos upon Eridoria. Kragnir's army, a relentless tide, crashed against the kingdom's defenses. The clash of steel on steel echoed through the streets, as screams and cries filled the air.

Eridoria's soldiers rushed to the frontline, determined to protect their people. They formed a bulwark against the invaders, their valor unwavering.

Within the palace, King Erian's commands were swift and decisive. "Protect the queen, the prince, and our ministers! Ensure their safety above all!"

A contingent of elite soldiers, handpicked by General Thorne, took position around the palace. Their armor shone like gold in the flickering torchlight.

Ministers scrambled to the throne room, their faces etched with worry. "Your Majesty, what of the prophecy?" one asked.

King Erian's eyes narrowed. "Gaius's words have come to pass. Summon the mystic. Release him from the prison at once! I would hear his counsel."

One of the guards hastened to obey. "I'll fetch Gaius immediately, sire."

As the guard rushed out, the king's instructions followed. "Tell Gaius, his prophecy has befallen our land. I would know the extent of this calamity."

In the dungeons, Gaius waited, his eyes aglow with an otherworldly intensity. "The time of reckoning has come," he whispered to himself.

The palace gates creaked open, and Kaleekis entered the dimly lit corridors. "Gaius, the king summons you. Your prophecy—"

Gaius rose, his gaze piercing. "I knew this day would come. Lead the way, youngman."

As they ascended to the throne room, the war's cacophony grew louder. Eridoria's fate hung in the balance.

The war raged on, its ferocity unrelenting. Eridoria's soldiers clashed with Kragnir's invaders, their valor and skill matched against overwhelming numbers.

Eridorian warriors fell, struck by Kragnir steel. Their cries echoed through the streets as life fled their bodies. Amidst the chaos, General Thorne rallied his troops.

"Hold your ground!" he shouted. "Protect our people!"

But Kragnir's tide would not be stemmed. Their soldiers pressed forward, cutting down Eridorians with ruthless efficiency. Wounded Kragnirs stumbled back, replaced by fresh warriors.

Eridoria's lines wavered, then broke. Panic spread as Kragnir's army surged into the breach.

General Thorne's face set in grim determination. "We cannot hold. Send word to the palace."

A scout soldier, Arien, was summoned. "Ride to the palace, Arien. Inform King Erian of our situation. We're losing the battle."

Arien's eyes widened. "And, sir?"

General Thorne's voice hardened. "Retreat is not an option. Kragnir seeks revenge, not conquest. They'll show no quarter."

Arien nodded, leapt onto his horse, and galloped toward the palace.

As he rode, the sounds of war grew fainter. Arien's heart pounded in his chest. What would King Erian decide?

Within the palace, King Erian, Queen Xaren, and the ministers awaited news. Gaius, freed from his dungeons, stood before the king.

Chief eunuch, Theophilus entered, his face somber. "Your Majesty, Arien arrives with news from the battlefield."

Arien dismounted, breathless. "General Thorne sends word, sire... We're losing the battle. Kragnir's army overwhelms us."

The throne room fell silent.

King Erian's eyes locked onto Gaius. "Mystic, what course shall we take?"

Gaius's gaze seemed to pierce the veil of time. "The prophecy unfolds, Your Majesty. Kragnir's wrath will not be sated until Eridoria falls."

The queen's voice trembled. "What of our people?"

Gaius's words hung in the air like a death sentence. "Their fate is sealed."

Gaius's eyes blazed with triumph. "I warned you, King Erian. Now, you beg for my aid."

King Erian's desperation grew. "Help us, Gaius. Defeat the Kragnirs, and I'll grant any wish."

Gaius's smile twisted. "Very well, Your Majesty. I shall summon the ancient powers."

Gaius raised his hands to the heavens.

"Ἐκβοήθητί μοι, ὦ μέγιστοι θεοί!" (Ekboēthēti moi, o megistoi theoi!) - "Hear me, greatest gods!"

"Αἰθήρ, Γαῖα, Ὕδωρ, Πῦρ, Ἀέρας!" (Aithēr, Gaia, Hydōr, Pyr, Aerās!) - "Ether, Earth, Water, Fire, Air!"

"Ἐν τῇ ὥρᾳ τῆς ἀνάγκης, ἐπικαλούμαι ὑμᾶς!" (En tē hōrā tēs anankēs, epikaloumai hymās!) - "In this hour of need, I call upon you!"

"Δύναμις τοῦ Ἡλίου, Σελήνης, Ἀστέρων!" (Dynamis tou Hēliou, Selēnēs, Asterōn!) - "Power of the Sun, Moon, Stars!"

"Κατασβέσατε τοὺς Κράγνιρς, ἐχθροὺς ἡμῶν!" (Kataskbesate tous Kragnirs, echthrous hēmōn!) - "Destroy the Kragnirs, our enemies!"

"Ἐν τῇ δύναμι τῶν ἀρχαίων, νενίκαμεν!" (En tē dynamēi tōn archaīon, nenikamen!) - "By the power of the ancients, we shall conquer!"

As Gaius finished his incantation, the air seemed to vibrate with ancient energy.

As Gaius's words faded, the battlefield transformed. The Kragnirs' confidence wavered, their strength faltering.

Eridorian warriors, emboldened by the mystic's spell, charged forward with renewed ferocity.

"Füror Eridorian!" they shouted, their war cry echoing across the plain.

The Kragnirs' lines buckled under the onslaught. Eridorian swords sliced through armor, finding vulnerable flesh beneath.

Fifty thousand Kragnir warriors fell, their bodies strewn across the blood-soaked earth.

The killing continued, relentless and merciless.

Eridorian archers loosed arrows in deadly volleys, piercing Kragnir armor with ease.

Swords clashed, shields shattered, and screams filled the air.

Kragnir warriors stumbled, their movements slowing as the Eridorians pressed their advantage.

General Thorne led the charge, his sword slicing through the enemy ranks.

"For Eridoria!" he bellowed.

The Eridorians' fury was unyielding, driven by Gaius's spell and their own desperation.

Kragnir commanders fell, their banners torn and trampled.

The invaders' cohesion shattered, their army fragmenting into chaotic retreat.

Eridorian cavalry pursued, cutting down fleeing Kragnirs with ruthless efficiency.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the battlefield lay silent, littered with the bodies of the slain.

The Eridorians stood victorious, their armor battered but unbroken.

At the palace, another soldier rushed into the palace throne room, "your majesty, I bring good news, the heavens are helping us, the Kragnirs armies are fleeing, we won!" He reported.

King Erian rode forth, surveying the carnage.

"Gaius, your spell has saved us," he said, his voice filled with gratitude.

Gaius's eyes gleamed with a knowing light.

"The ancient powers have favored us, Your Majesty. But this war is far from over."
