Day 3 before the battle
The sun rose over Kragnir's encampment, casting a golden glow on the vast sea of 700,000 armor-clad warriors. The army was divided into distinct units, each with its own unique armor and weaponry.
At the front, 50,000 cavalrymen sat astride majestic warhorses, their gleaming steel armor emblazoned with Kragnir's emblem. Each cavalryman wielded a longsword, shield, and lance, their banners fluttering in the breeze.
Behind the cavalry, 200,000 foot soldiers stood in formation, shields locked and spears at the ready. Their armor consisted of leather tunics reinforced with steel plates, and helmets adorned with feathers.
The third row consisted of 150,000 armor bearers, also on horseback, carrying the emblem of Kragnir on their shields. They wore lighter armor, allowing for swifter movement.
The fourth row comprised 100,000 archers, their bows and quivers at the ready. They wore leather armor and carried short swords for close combat.
The final row consisted of 200,000 reserve troops, a mix of foot soldiers and cavalry, prepared to reinforce any weakened areas.
King Kael, resplendent in his battle robe, rode forth on his majestic stallion, surveying his formidable army.
"Warriors of Kragnir!" King Kael's voice boomed, echoing through the ranks. "The time for vengeance has come! Eridoria's treachery will not go unpunished!"
The army roared, shields and swords raised high.
"Spare no one in that kingdom!" King Kael commanded. "Bring me King Erian alive! More slaves won't be a waste. Fight with all your might! For the love of Kragnir!"
The warriors cheered, their fervor palpable, "For the love of Kragnir!!"
As the king's words and the noises faded, General Thane approached him, a somber expression on his face.
"Your Majesty," General Thane said, his voice low, "I must counsel caution."
King Kael's brow furrowed. "What concerns you, General?"
General Thane's eyes locked onto King Kael's, his voice laced with concern. "Sire, since we lost King Tharius to Eridoria's treachery, I fear for your safety. You are our people's hope, our unity. We cannot afford to lose you."
King Kael's gaze wavered, General Thane's words striking a chord.
General Thorold stepped forward, his voice booming. "Consider this battle already won, Your Majesty! Our numbers, our strategy – Eridoria stands no chance. You do not need to go with us."
King Kael's expression softened, his mind weighing the risks. With a nod, he sheathed his sword.
"I will not ride into battle," King Kael declared, "but I will not hide. I'll remain within the city, commanding from a safe distance."
The generals bowed, relief etched on their faces.
As King Kael withdrew, flanked by able-bodied guards, the army erupted into cheers. The king lifted his royal sword, and the noise of the soldiers filled the air.
With a final glance at his warriors, King Kael descended the platform, disappearing into the city's inner chambers.
The generals watched him go before turning to each other.
General Thane nodded. "Let us ensure victory, brothers."
General Thorold grinned. "Eridoria will fall."
With a thunderous roar, the army began to march out of the city gates, their armor glinting in the sunlight.
Day 4, After the Prophecy
Kragnir's army marched steadily, their armor glinting in the sunlight. General Thane led the vanguard, General Thorold commanding the rear. They would reach Eridoria's borders by dawn, Day 5.
Meanwhile, within Eridoria's castle walls, King Erian paced, his mind consumed by Gaius's prophecy.
"Summon our best spy," King Erian ordered his advisor. "I need to know if this land is still safe."
The spy, a skilled Eridorian soldier, departed under the cover of night. He returned before dawn, his report reassuring.
"Your Majesty, the land is peaceful. No signs of any kingdom's army."
King Erian's unease lingered. "Send more soldiers to spy the borders. Ensure all is well."
The advisor bowed. "As you command, sire."
A contingent of Eridorian soldiers departed, dispersing along the borders. Their reports trickled in throughout the day – all indicated calm.
Yet, King Erian's restlessness intensified.
"Double the guard," he commanded. "Prepare our defenses."
As night fell, Eridoria's castle bustled with activity. King Erian's anxiety spread, infecting his generals.
"What troubles you, sire?" General Thorne asked.
King Erian's eyes narrowed. "Gaius's words haunt me. I sense a storm brewing."
The night wore on, Eridoria's soldiers on high alert.
Unbeknownst to them, Kragnir's army camped mere miles away, their fires extinguished, their armor polished.
The battle loomed, its outcome hanging precariously in the balance.
Day 5, Midnight
Kragnir's army reached Eridoria's borders, their silence a testament to their discipline. They mounted tents, camping mere miles from their enemy's stronghold.
General Thane stood tall, surveying his troops. "Rest, but remain vigilant. Tonight, we strike."
The soldiers slept in shifts, their armor at the ready. As midnight approached, lamps were lit, casting flickering shadows.
With a battle cry, Kragnir's army charged forward. Fireballs rained down upon Eridoria, illuminating the dark sky. Flames engulfed marker places, people's houses, and strategic strongholds.
Panic spread as Eridoria's citizens fled their burning homes.
One of King Erian's spies, stationed at the border, witnessed the onslaught. His eyes widened as he counted the unending stream of Kragnir soldiers.
"Kragnir's army!" he exclaimed, rushing toward the palace.
He burst into King Erian's chambers, breathless. "Your Majesty, Kragnir attacks! Their numbers are endless!"
King Erian's face paled. "Sound the alarm! Mobilize our troops!"
The spy's words echoed through the palace corridors. "Kragnir's army is upon us!"
Eridoria's soldiers scrambled to respond, their confusion and fear palpable.
General Thorne emerged, sword in hand. "We'll hold the front lines. Protect the king!"
As the battle raged, King Erian's thoughts turned to Gaius's prophecy.
"Is this the downfall he foresaw?" King Erian wondered.
The fate of Eridoria hung in the balance.
