- Vee hi, how are you?
I said hello to the girl who answered my call.
- How can someone who's half dead be doing?
- Don't exaggerate. You have more than enough time to find a solution to your problem. And that's what I'm calling about.
- Yeah... Vic already told me you brought him an interesting girl with a burnt-out doll chip... and you said you didn't know where she was.....
- I didn't. But it wasn't hard to find her... well, I wouldn't have looked for her, but Judy had a guilty conscience and decided to help her ex one last time.
- I see... well, as I understood from Vic's words, there's nothing to get out of her, the doll's chip burned through the rest of the chrome....
- I'm not gonna argue with that, but you can talk to her. I think she'll be able to tell you who did this to her, and it'll probably be...
- Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It's probably gonna be the person who actually ordered it.
- Yeah, but that's not really why I'm calling.
- Oh, yeah?
- Bestia texted me the time and place... to be exact, you're supposed to be in the Afterlife tomorrow at twenty-two forty-five. She's got a lot on her plate, so she won't be expecting you.
- Hmm?
- She has some information, but it's still to be verified. I think she reckons she'll have it done by tomorrow. And then she can pass it on to you.
- Pass it on? Did you say she will?
- Yeah... I've already paid for the info, so don't blow it.
- David.
- V... Let's make a deal, just shut up and don't blow it.
- Okay. Thank you.
- You're welcome...
I cut the connection and leaned back in the chair I was sitting in. We'd had enough sleep, but it would be too dangerous to take orders now. And this opinion was shared not only by my girls, but also by Bestia and Regina, who almost directly advised me to live for a month just for myself....
And now we all just don't know what to do.
- David, listen, I've got this project.
I looked at Judy.
- Well... if of course you want to help me... and the other girls can get involved, more information to analyse....
- I don't mind, but what's the project?
- Well... I want to try to record two tracks of brayne and overlay them one on top of the other.
I shrugged.
- I don't mind trying, it should be interesting, and setting up the equipment for such a recording could be quite interesting.
- Mm-hmm.
The Kiwi who was present at this conversation nodded.
- ...and the software will have to be well worked out....
- Thank you.
Judy smiled openly at us and threw herself into my arms, giving Kiwi a peck on the cheek, which embarrassed the rauner.
As I hugged her back I enjoyed feeling Judy's bum.
- Ahem... David, if you don't stop, we're about to get into a bit of other things rather than discussing technical details.....
- Well, I'd look at that....
Kiwi couldn't help but comment on what was going on.
- Well, that's fine with me too, maybe Kiwi would even join us, but.....
I kissed Judy on the nose and defiantly put my hands behind the back of the chair I was sitting in.
- ...I can see in your eyes that you are more interested in discussing the details of this project...so let's call the others, at least Lucy will be very useful to us, and Panam and Becca may offer some unexpected solutions....
- OK...
And Judy's eyes lit up, and a couple of minutes later the girls came from different parts of the flat and had to explain what was needed from them....
We spent the whole day trying to figure out exactly what Judy was up to. No, not the basic idea, but how exactly she planned to realise her idea in technical terms, in terms of software and how she planned to bring it all together....
- Um... why is it so complicated?
We all froze in surprise looking at Panam, even Becca who was more just throwing out possible ideas, partly delusional, looked at her friend with indignation.
- Panam, what do you mean?
- Why go to all this trouble to synchronise the track recordings?
- Do you know how to do it all in a simpler way?
Judy looked at Panam with interest.
- Perhaps... you just don't swear.....
- Don't drag it out...
- Basilisk.
Becca was the first to realise what Panam meant and nodded happily. Next, I entered the situation, but I had no time to say anything, as Becca decided to explain the genius idea of our mulatto.
- There are two pilots in Basilisk, one controls the transport, the other the cannon. And in order for the control to be as coordinated as possible there is equipment for synchronisation of pilots. Panam is probably proposing to use similar equipment to synchronise those who will record the brans.
- Hmm...
Judy tapped her lips thoughtfully with her index finger.
- We could make it a little simpler...
- Simpler?
Everyone looked at me in surprise.
- Yes, take the synchronisation software from the Basilisk and pour it onto a special chip, as well as connect our connectors, for a closer contact of our chrome. Of course this is only the first option, afterwards you can get by with just a customised write chip....
I drummed my fingers on the table.
- But in general... we have to try, but first we have to get the software and install it on the chip to optimise it for our situation, because I'm sure there's a lot of crap out there that is just not needed for recording brain.
Until late in the evening we did nothing but solve the tasks set before us, which turned out to be very interesting. Of course, a couple of times we had to break for food, and I had to cook it. But even so...
As I lay in bed, snuggled up with Judy, I realised that this was the kind of release we had been missing... not a job for someone, not a picnic, but just such friendly meetings to discuss an interesting task, when no deadlines had to be met. Although I was a little bit wrong about the picnics....
And picnics can be combined with work on this task....
In the morning, while I was making breakfast, the doorbell rang...
- I'll get it.
Lucy came to the door.
- What do you want?
Only Lucy either didn't get an answer to her question, or whoever came in spoke quietly enough.
- Judy! It's for you!
- Just a second!
Judy was in the bathroom at the time, so it wasn't a second, but about five minutes later, and Lucy was out of my sight the whole time. I suspect she was standing at the entrance and wouldn't let anyone inside the flat. And I was beginning to get suspicious about the identity of the person who had come to visit....
- What do you want?
Judy's voice was a little disgruntled.
- Okay... come in... but not a word about my family or my friends....
I could hear the threat in the voice of my Brainiac master.
- ...I will personally throw you out the window. Do you understand?
Now I had no doubt about the identity of the person who had come to visit us, and when the door slammed shut and Judy and Parker entered the kitchen, I wasn't surprised. In fact, I ignored her.
- So...
Judy nodded to her guest on the sofa and stood with her back to me, resting her luscious ass on the bar stool.
- I came to say thank you.
And a silence fell over the kitchen, which Judy had to break.
- И?
- Judy...thanks for saving me...I don't know what would have happened to me if you hadn't pulled me out of the Clouds....
- Once again, you're choosing to overlook the obvious. I didn't pull you out, David did.
- I doubt he would have done it if you hadn't asked him to--
- He probably wouldn't have...
Judy shrugged, as if it was no big deal. Though remembering the look in her eyes when she'd asked me to save her ex-girlfriend, she might have gone after her. So she just seemed distant and disinterested in the conversation.
- ...but do you really think I would have pressured him? If he said no, you'd stay where you were... at Dubman's and he'd continue to rape you....
- That's what I'm saying. We have to do something.
- We? We have to?
- I got lucky this time.
There was a sad chuckle in Parker's voice.
- ...I was found early, was able to be pulled out and taken to a good ripper who was able to remove the implant. But who will be next? Dubman has to be stopped, or better yet, take over Clouds.....
I can barely contain a sad sigh.
- Well suppose stopping Dubman... there's nothing complicated about that... I've already thought about it. The control of the club would just finally be taken over by Maiko....
- That bitch?! She's no better than that prick! She won't do anything! She won't change anything! And Dubman... you know you have to take out not only him, but the roof from his claws....
- Mmm-hmm...
Judy nodded her head understandingly.
- ...Well, let's say I agree....
I could see the sparkle of joy in Parker's eyes.
- ...but who's gonna drive?
- You and me.
Parker stood up and took a couple of steps towards Judy and put her hand on her shoulder. I wanted to put it on her thigh, but when she noticed something, probably the emotion on my girl's face, she changed the direction of her hand.
- We? Parker, don't you get it? There's no us anymore... we ended when you broke my heart....
- But you--
- Yes, I asked David to save you, yes, I left you a little money so you could get out of town. But that's just a token of the good things we had together. That's it.
- But Judy.
- No, Parker, I'm not going anywhere with you, and besides, you don't know what you're trying to do.
- What's wrong with my plan?
- Well, for instance, who in your plan would kill the roof? You? Or maybe me? О...
Judy continued after a couple of seconds with an obvious chuckle.
- ...it would have to be David, surely? And what would have happened next? Oh, I'll go on, don't bother, you probably wanted to play on my relationship with him, thereby getting him to guard the Clouds. And when things stabilised, you'd just get rid of both him and me and the girls.....
- Not you!
- Yeah, yeah...
Judy nodded, a mocking sneer in her voice.
- ...of course you wouldn't betray me again. And of course you wouldn't want to be alone on the top of the Clouds.
- I don't--
- Parker, who are you gonna lie to?
- I'm not--
- Okay, if that's all you're here for, get out of here.
- I...
- Yeah, yeah, I get it, I came to say thank you and also to try to play on the feelings you thought I had for you. I wanted to play on that and get a higher profile. You know, the usual, I wanted to take the heat.
- You didn't--
- That's enough. Now get out.
- It's--
- Parker, you blew the chance I decided to give you, and now we can't even be friends...
Parker did get up and walked towards the exit of the flat. Judy followed her and slammed the door shut, returning already considerably more annoyed....
- Shit... I should call Maiko... warn her about this one critter's ambitions....
Judy even kicked the couch, before turning on her toes and literally collapsing onto it, her eyes lighting up saying she was calling...
