Chapter 9 - CH 8

The sunset cast a golden hue across the rooftop, and the air felt charged with potential. Satoshi and Mai stood facing each other, the gravity of the moment settling in.

"I really need your help, Satoshi," Mai said, her voice steady. "I want to implement some changes that will benefit the entire student body. There are four key areas I'm focusing on."

Satoshi raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Go on."

"First, I want to establish an Anonymous Teacher Feedback System. Students should feel comfortable sharing their thoughts on teaching methods without fear of judgment. It could really help teachers improve their classes."

Satoshi nodded. "That makes sense. What's next?"

"Second, we need to address the Outdated School Rules that hinder our learning experience. It's time to re-evaluate what's actually beneficial for us as students and what just feels like a burden."

"I can definitely see how that would resonate with everyone," he replied, considering the unnecessary restrictions they often faced.

"Then there's Student Representation on the School Board. We need a real voice in the decisions that affect us. The administration should know our perspectives and needs firsthand," Mai continued, her passion shining through.

"And the final point?" Satoshi asked, genuinely curious now.

Mai took a deep breath. "There's a lack of communication between the school board and the student body. I want to bridge that gap and create an open dialogue. We need to collaborate, not just coexist."

Satoshi felt a surge of admiration for her vision. "That sounds like a lot of work. How can I specifically help you with all of this?"

Mai stepped closer, her eyes locking onto his. "I'd like to offer you the position of Student Council General Secretary."

Satoshi's heart raced. "General Secretary? But I—"

"Don't hesitate. You're smart and capable. I need someone who can help organize these initiatives and act as a liaison between the council and the students," she encouraged.

Just as Satoshi was about to voice his uncertainty, a familiar voice chimed in from behind. "You should definitely take it, Satoshi."

He turned to see Arata-senpai approaching, a knowing smile on his face. "If you don't join the student council, I'll be forced to join myself."

"So that's his real reason, hehe," laughed the author.

Thought so it would be something like that. Basically, he wants to push the tedious work to someone else. I need to find some excuse to decline it, thought Satoshi.

Satoshi chuckled, "But I'm part of the debate club. How can I also be in the student council?"

Arata and Mai exchanged glances, then erupted into laughter. "You can absolutely be part of both!" Mai explained, her laughter still bubbling. "Joining the student council won't interfere with your club activities. Many students juggle both roles."

"Haha, your plan failed, Satoshi," said the author.

"Shut up! I don't want to take this tedious job. It will be so much work."

"But isn't it good?"

"How?"

"Well, since you want to be a lawyer in the future, a lawyer's life is very busy, and it's not easy, you know? So it will be a nice opportunity for you as well. You should take this role," said the author to Satoshi.

"Well, I guess what you said makes sense. So even the stupid author can make sense sometimes."

"You little brat! Well, leave it," said the author, already exasperated with Satoshi's antics.

Back to the scene:

"Oh, really? I didn't know that. That makes things easier."

"Yes! So, what do you say?" Mai pressed, her excitement palpable.

Taking a moment to consider, Satoshi felt a sense of purpose growing within him. "Alright, I'll do it. I'll join the student council."

Mai beamed at him, and Arata clapped him on the back. "Welcome aboard!"

As the celebration of his decision settled, Satoshi suddenly remembered something. "Wait, Mai-san, before we wrap this up... What about you? Are you also part of some club?"

Mai smiled, but there was a twinkle in her eyes that hinted at something deeper. "Well, I'm actually the Vice President of the Debate Club."

Satoshi blinked in surprise, the revelation hitting him like a ton of bricks. "You're kidding! You never mentioned that!"

"I guess I wanted to see how you'd react," Mai teased, a playful glint in her eyes.

As they shared a laugh, Satoshi felt a wave of excitement wash over him. The student council would be a new adventure, and he was eager to see where it would lead him.

With the sun dipping below the horizon, casting long shadows across the rooftop, Satoshi felt ready for whatever challenges lay ahead.
