"Zombie King..."
Upon hearing this name, which was their ultimate target, everyone fell silent.
If this so-called zombie leader had appeared before they entered the Dead Man's Street, it would have thrilled everyone, as discovering a new type of mutated creature would have meant a future of great success!
However, after enduring this hellish journey, losing nearly 80% of their team, and witnessing the waves of undead like a deluge...
Each person's heart was burdened by a heavy weight.
If even the small fry were this difficult to handle, could we even stand a chance against the upcoming boss...
This was exactly what Xia Leng thought at first. When he sensed the extremely dangerous and unfamiliar enemy while infiltrating the commercial district, he knew that taking it on alone was not wise, but his subconscious kept urging him to investigate further, as if it could greatly enhance his strength.
So he tricked two teams of mercenaries into fighting alongside him, only to find that the zombies encountered along the way were even more troublesome than expected!
Now, only about ten team members remained as they approached the boss.
"Hey! Are you trying to mess with us again?! Where did you disappear to during the fight?!"
Phillip, furious, stormed over to confront Xia Leng, but was stopped by Captain Gilbert.
"He might be telling the truth. I also sensed that special aura on this floor..." Gilbert said weakly, his lips pale from blood loss.
Both of them had impressive danger detection abilities and could sense the presence of dangerous enemies in advance.
The source of the dangerous aura was behind the corner where Xia Leng was leaning against the wall.
Moreover, this was the only aura present; it seemed there were no other zombies on this floor, as if the king's quarters were restricted to commoners.
The thirteenth floor was an extremely spacious office area, nearly 4,000 square meters, equivalent to the size of a standard soccer field.
It had originally been rented by a securities company, with neatly arranged desks and chairs, a place for social elites to work.
But now it was in disarray, with overturned desks stained with old blood and rotting documents scattered everywhere. The whole office floor appeared incredibly eerie and damp, as sunlight never reached it.
Another reason Xia Leng was sure the boss was on this floor was that a barely noticeable trail of blood extended from the bottom of the building to this floor, occasionally mixed with bits of flesh.
With his acute senses, he immediately recognized the blood and flesh as belonging to humans—the same group of refugees he had seen wiped out the first time he came here!
The zombies had moved those refugees' bodies to this floor, presumably to offer them as food to the Zombie King!
Once the mercenaries and the two captains arrived, Xia Leng cautiously peeked around and began to assess the situation on this floor.
After consuming dozens of zombies on the stairs, Xia Leng noticed his night vision ability had slightly improved, allowing him to see clearly within a range of about thirty meters in the dark.
Night vision was also one of the characteristics of zombies, which Xia Leng acquired after consuming them!
He looked around and saw no living creatures within his field of vision, only countless scattered scraps of paper and an eerily quiet atmosphere.
Perhaps the Zombie King was hiding deeper within.
"Let's continue forward. It might be hiding in some dark corner," Xia Leng suggested.
"This time, you'll lead the way! I don't want you to disappear again when we fight the enemy!" Phillip was determined to keep a close watch on Xia Leng, as he still didn't trust him.
Xia Leng didn't respond; he gave Phillip a bewildering smile and walked out from behind the corner, heading straight into the darkness.
Even if he couldn't defeat the Zombie King, Xia Leng believed he could outrun these people easily, using them as bait to distract the pursuing enemies...
"Damn it, are you mocking me?!" Phillip, seeing Xia Leng smile for the first time, thought he was being mocked for his cowardice and was about to lash out.
"Alright, let's not have infighting at this point. Follow him and keep moving forward. Everyone, turn on your night vision helmets and prepare for the upcoming battle," Gilbert said, taking a deep breath and following Xia Leng, raising his rifle with a slightly trembling injured arm.
Now, with only ten people left, the team formed a "V" shaped attack formation and advanced into the dark office ruins.
Xia Leng led the way, remaining highly alert, his arm muscles tensed around the titanium blade. He was ready to launch a full attack at the first sign of the enemy!
He knew that if he had detected the enemy's presence, the Zombie King was also aware of their arrival.
The floor was eerily quiet, and even the faint sound of their footsteps now seemed extremely loud and grating. Everyone's heartbeat quickened with each step.
The two mercenaries at the back, carrying floodlights, occasionally shone their lights around, but aside from the ruins, no signs of life were detected. Could the Zombie King be hiding under one of the many desks?
If they had to check every desk, it would likely take an hour.
As they approached the end of the office floor, they suddenly noticed a door on the wall ahead, labeled "President's Office."
At the same time, Xia Leng and Gilbert almost simultaneously sensed the dangerous aura emanating from behind the door. The enemy was likely right behind it!
However, no one rushed to open the door, as there could be traps waiting for them behind it.
After the previous hardships, no one dared to underestimate the zombies' intelligence...
"Go, use sticky explosives to blow open the door," Gilbert ordered, making a standard hand gesture for the remaining demolitionist to carry out the task.
The demolitionist took out a sticky bomb from his pouch and carefully approached the dangerous door.
He attached the sticky bomb to the door and began setting the timer.
Everyone held their breath, aiming their weapons at the door. Once it was blown open, it would be time to launch a surprise attack on the enemy!
Rather than being passive in battle, it was better to take the initiative and strike first.
The tense atmosphere made even the thick-skinned Phillip swallow nervously.
"OK!"
With the explosive device set, the demolitionist gave an "OK" gesture and turned to walk back.
Suddenly, at that very moment!!!
The dangerous aura behind the door surged again, causing Xia Leng and Gilbert's pupils to dilate in shock!
