Chapter 185 - Truths Unveiled

Kai Nakamura's breath came in sharp bursts as he circled Joseph, who stood grinning, his two recently severed arms already restored, the skin smooth and unmarred. The forest around them crackled with the tension of their powers, shadows and light dancing wildly across the ground.

Joseph's laughter filled the air, a sound that was both mocking and amused. "You thought cutting off my arms would end this, Kai? You've underestimated me… again."

Kai's eyes narrowed. "What are you really after, Joseph? Why all this? Why the games, the destruction?"

Joseph's grin widened, and he flicked his fingers, causing small sparks of energy to dance in the air around him. "Isn't it obvious by now, Kai? This is about power, survival… and a little bit of fun. But mainly, it's about revealing the truth you've been avoiding."

Kai felt the familiar rush of anger at Joseph's taunting. He clenched his fists, feeling the heat rising in his core. "Speak plainly, Joseph. What truth are you talking about?"

Joseph's face turned more serious. "You've been in the dark for too long, Kai. Your existence… your powers… they're not what you think they are. Everything you've believed, everything you've fought for… it's built on a lie."

Kai's heart pounded in his chest. "A lie? What do you mean?"

Before Joseph could answer, a powerful gust of wind swept through the forest, and suddenly, a new presence made itself known. Gero, with his imposing figure and commanding aura, appeared between them, his expression stern and resolute.

"Stop this madness," Gero shouted, his voice echoing through the trees like a thunderclap. "There's no need for any more fighting. Joseph, tell him the truth now."

Kai's eyes darted between Joseph and Gero, his mind racing. "Gero? You… you're involved in this too?"

Gero nodded, his face grave. "I didn't want it to come to this, but Joseph is right, Kai. It's time you know what's really going on."

Joseph chuckled, looking almost pleased to have Gero there. "Ah, Gero, always the voice of reason. Fine, I'll lay it out for you, Kai."

Joseph's eyes gleamed with a dark light, and he raised his hands, the air around them vibrating with a low hum. "You see, Kai, your powers… they were given to you, not inherited. You were chosen by forces far beyond this world, forces that have been manipulating everything from behind the scenes."

Kai's mind reeled at Joseph's words. "Given to me? What are you saying? I trained… I bled for these powers!"

Gero stepped forward, his voice calm but firm. "Kai, listen to him. This isn't about your effort or your will. You were selected, infused with abilities far greater than any human should possess. And not just for your sake… but for a larger purpose."

Kai took a step back, feeling as if the ground beneath him was starting to crumble. "A larger purpose? What purpose?"

Joseph smirked, leaning in slightly. "You are a catalyst, Kai. A trigger. Your awakening was meant to unleash a chain of events that would tip the balance of power in this universe. Your existence has been a pawn in a much larger game."

Kai's fists clenched tighter. "And you… you've known this all along?"

Joseph shrugged. "I found out eventually. And I decided, why not play the game to my advantage?"

Gero interjected, his voice heavy with concern. "That's why Joseph has been testing you, pushing you to your limits. To see how far your powers could go… and to find out who is truly pulling the strings."

Kai felt a surge of frustration. "So all of this… the fights, the betrayals… they were just a way to figure out the truth?"

Joseph nodded. "Exactly. And now, Kai, you have a choice. You can either keep playing by their rules, or we can take this fight to those who've been manipulating us from the start."

Kai's head was spinning. "And how do I know you're not manipulating me, too?"

Joseph grinned. "You don't. But look around, Kai. The academy is gone, your friends are scattered, and the old rules don't apply anymore. You have power, Kai—more than you know. But it's up to you how you use it."

Before Kai could respond, Gero raised his hand, his own energy flaring to life. "Kai, whatever decision you make, know this: You are not alone in this fight. But we must act quickly. If the ones controlling this truly intend to unleash chaos, we need to strike first."

Kai took a deep breath, his mind racing with the implications. "Fine," he said, his voice steady. "Tell me everything you know. All of it. I'm done with secrets."

Joseph's smile returned, broader and brighter. "Now that's more like it. But first… we have to make sure we're ready. Because trust me, Kai, the real fight hasn't even begun yet."

Gero nodded in agreement, his gaze intense. "We will need allies… and we will need to move quickly."

Kai felt a new sense of resolve harden within him. "Then let's find them… and let's end this, once and for all."

Joseph clapped his hands together, his grin widening. "Now you're talking, Kai. Let's go rewrite the rules."

As the three stood there, united in their purpose, the forest around them seemed to tremble, as if sensing the storm that was about to break. They had only begun to uncover the truth, but now, they were ready to confront it head-on.

The tension between them settled into a silent understanding. Kai's gaze shifted between Joseph and Gero, realizing that for the first time, he wasn't just fighting to survive—he was fighting for the truth.

A new chapter was beginning, and this time, Kai was determined to write it himself.
