Chapter 138 - The Reluctant Path

Kai and Haru trudged along the winding path leading to the village, the pain in Kai's arm throbbing with each step. The night air was cool, but the chill did little to ease the discomfort. Kai gritted his teeth, determined to push forward despite his injury.

As they walked, Haru glanced at Kai, his expression one of concern. "Kai, you really need to take it easy. The sling will only do so much. You should let me help you more."

Kai shook his head, his jaw set. "I appreciate the offer, Haru, but I'm fine. We have to keep moving. We don't know what could be waiting for us, and we can't afford to slow down now."

Haru sighed, frustration evident in his voice. "You're pushing yourself too hard. If you don't get proper treatment for that arm, you could make things worse. And if we run into trouble—"

Kai cut him off, his voice firm but tired. "We don't have a choice. If we stop now, we risk everything we've fought for. I need to be strong, not just for myself, but for everyone depending on us."

Haru's brow furrowed as he tried to understand Kai's determination. "I get that, but there's a difference between being strong and being reckless. You can't help anyone if you're completely incapacitated."

Kai stopped walking, turning to face Haru with a look of resolve. "I understand your concern, but right now, the priority is reaching that village. We need to get information, supplies, and find a way to regroup. My arm is just a temporary setback. I can handle it."

Haru's eyes softened, but his worry didn't fade. "Kai, I've seen what you're capable of, but pushing yourself too hard isn't going to help. Let me at least get you some support or pain relief. We can't afford to have you at less than your best."

Kai looked away, staring into the distance. "I know you're trying to help, and I'm grateful for that. But I need to do this on my own terms. We're almost there. Just a little further, and we can get some help."

Haru hesitated, clearly torn between wanting to argue and respecting Kai's wishes. Finally, he nodded, though his concern remained. "Alright, but if you collapse or something, I'm going to drag you to the nearest doctor. Deal?"

Kai managed a small, appreciative smile. "Deal. Now let's keep moving."

They resumed their journey, the path growing steeper as they neared the village. The trees began to thin out, and the faint glow of lights in the distance promised some form of refuge. Haru kept a vigilant eye on Kai, ready to assist if needed, but Kai's determination seemed to fuel his resolve.

As they reached the edge of the village, the first signs of dawn began to break through the horizon, casting a gentle light over the sleepy town. The village seemed quiet, almost serene, a stark contrast to the turmoil they had left behind.

Haru guided Kai through the narrow streets, his eyes scanning for any signs of medical help. "We should head towards the village center. There's usually a healer or a small clinic in that area."

Kai nodded, though every step was a struggle. His right arm was a constant reminder of the power he had wielded and the consequences of it. The **Divine Radiance** had been both a gift and a curse, and mastering it would require more than just physical strength—it would require understanding and discipline.

They reached a modest clinic, its sign hanging with a faded inscription that read "Village Healer." Haru pushed open the door and led Kai inside. The interior was simple but clean, with an assortment of herbs and medical supplies neatly arranged.

A middle-aged woman with kind eyes looked up from her desk. "Can I help you?"

Haru spoke quickly, "My friend here has an injury. We need immediate attention for his arm."

The healer's eyes widened as she took in the sight of Kai's injured arm. "Sit down, young man. Let me take a look."

Kai sat on a nearby bench, his expression resolute despite the pain. The healer approached, her hands gentle as she examined his arm. "This is quite severe. I can treat it, but it will take some time. You should have come to us sooner."

Kai shook his head, though he winced as the healer carefully manipulated his arm. "I couldn't risk it. We were on the run. I needed to keep moving."

The healer looked at him with a mixture of concern and admiration. "You've been through a lot. I'll do what I can to help, but you need to rest. Healing will take time, and you must allow yourself to recover."

Haru stood by, his concern evident as the healer worked. "Thank you for helping him."

The healer nodded, concentrating on her work. "It's my duty. Just make sure he follows my instructions. Healing is as much about patience as it is about treatment."

Kai glanced at Haru, who gave him a reassuring nod. "Rest here. We'll figure out our next steps once you're more stable."

Kai sighed, his earlier determination shifting to a more measured resolve. "Alright. I'll rest. But once we're back on our feet, we'll need to prepare for whatever comes next."

Haru nodded, sitting down beside him. "We'll be ready. For now, focus on getting better. We'll handle everything else."

As the healer worked, Kai's thoughts drifted to the challenges ahead. The power he had tapped into was formidable, but it came with its own set of challenges. Mastering it would be a journey in itself, one that would require not only physical strength but mental fortitude.

The journey was far from over, but as Kai sat in the clinic, he knew that this was just another step along the path. The trials he faced were only part of the greater challenge, and he was ready to face whatever lay ahead.
