Chapter 89 - The Trials of Level One

### **Chapter 57: The Trials of Level One**

The sun had barely begun to rise over the academy when Kai and Yuta stood before the entrance to the ancient training grounds hidden deep within the mountains. The path was shrouded in mist, and an eerie silence hung over the area, as though the world itself held its breath for the trial that was about to begin.

Yuta glanced at Kai with a serious expression, his usual calm demeanor replaced with something sharper, more intense. "Kai," Yuta began, his voice low but steady, "this isn't just another training session. We have to push through to get stronger—especially if you want to save your brother. This trial will be different. We need to reach the fifth level to even stand a chance, but for now, we're starting at level one."

Kai's brow furrowed as he looked at the massive stone archway that led to the first level. "Level one? How many are there?" His voice was firm, but beneath the surface, tension simmered.

Yuta nodded, his gaze focused on the foreboding landscape ahead. "Five levels. Each level has its own challenges, and with each step, we'll face stronger enemies. But it's not just about strength, Kai. You need to sharpen your mind, your instincts, and your control over your powers. The creatures we face here are manifestations of raw power and ancient magic. They won't hold back."

Kai clenched his fists, feeling the energy inside him hum with anticipation. His brother's face flashed in his mind, and the stakes suddenly felt heavier than ever. "I'm ready, Yuta. Whatever we have to do, I'm in."

Yuta allowed a small smile to form at the edge of his lips. "Good. Then let's not waste any time."

They stepped through the archway together, the air growing colder as they entered the first level. The landscape shifted around them—what was once a rocky terrain quickly transformed into an ancient forest, the trees towering above them with twisted, gnarled branches. The sunlight barely broke through the dense canopy, casting the area in an ominous gloom.

As they ventured deeper into the forest, Yuta explained the nature of the trial. "The levels are designed to test every aspect of our abilities. We'll be facing creatures that embody different elements and strengths. Our goal isn't just to survive but to adapt. We need to prove that we can handle whatever is thrown at us."

Kai nodded, his senses heightened. "What's the first boss like?"

Yuta's expression darkened slightly. "The Guardian of Level One is known as *Mordros*. It's an ancient golem, infused with earth and fire elements. It's slow but nearly indestructible. The key is to disrupt its core, hidden deep within its stone chest. If we try to brute force our way through, we won't stand a chance. Precision and timing are everything."

The ground beneath them suddenly trembled as if the earth itself was aware of their presence. The trees parted ahead, revealing a large, open clearing. And in the center of that clearing, towering over them like a living mountain of stone, stood Mordros.

Its body was composed of massive boulders, each one glowing faintly with molten lava coursing through the cracks. Its eyes burned with fiery intensity, and with each step, the ground beneath it shook violently. The heat radiating from its body made the air shimmer, and Kai could feel the intense energy it was emitting.

Mordros turned its gaze toward them, its eyes narrowing in recognition of their challenge. With a deep, rumbling roar, it raised one massive arm and slammed it into the ground, sending a shockwave of molten rock and debris surging toward them.

Kai reacted quickly, summoning a barrier of shimmering blue energy to shield them from the blast. The rocks exploded against the barrier, shattering into harmless pieces. "We have to keep moving," Kai muttered, the strain of holding the barrier already weighing on him.

Yuta nodded and dashed to the side, his body flickering with light as he moved with supernatural speed. "Distract it!" Yuta called out. "I'll go for its core!"

Kai released the barrier and darted in the opposite direction, drawing Mordros's attention with a surge of bright energy from his hands. He unleashed a series of energy blasts, striking the golem's arm and legs. The impacts sent small chunks of stone flying, but they barely seemed to faze the creature.

With a low growl, Mordros turned its attention to Kai, its massive arms swinging in wide arcs as it tried to crush him with brute force. Kai dodged nimbly, leaping into the air and landing on one of the boulders that made up Mordros's body. He used the momentum to launch himself higher, twisting in midair to fire another volley of energy blasts directly at the golem's head.

The blasts struck Mordros's face, causing it to stumble backward with a roar of anger. The molten cracks in its body flared brighter as it became more enraged, but it was clear that Kai's strategy was working. The more it focused on him, the more openings it created for Yuta.

Meanwhile, Yuta moved with precision and speed, his body a blur as he dashed around the golem, searching for the weak point Kai had mentioned. He darted between the creature's legs, narrowly avoiding its crushing blows, and then leaped onto its back, where the core was embedded deep within the stone.

"I've found it!" Yuta called out, his hands glowing with radiant energy as he pressed them against the core. "Keep it distracted just a little longer!"

Kai gritted his teeth, sweat dripping down his brow as he pushed his powers to their limit. He unleashed a surge of energy, forming a large blade of pure light in his hand. With a swift motion, he brought the blade down on Mordros's arm, cutting through the stone with a burst of energy. The creature roared in pain, its molten cracks flaring wildly.

But just as Kai prepared to strike again, Mordros's remaining arm came crashing down with incredible force. Kai barely managed to leap out of the way in time, but the impact sent him tumbling across the clearing. He landed hard, the breath knocked out of him for a moment.

"Kai!" Yuta's voice rang out as he concentrated on the core. "Just a little longer!"

Kai struggled to his feet, his body aching from the impact. He wiped the blood from his mouth and glared at the golem. "Not giving up that easily."

Summoning the last reserves of his strength, Kai sprinted toward Mordros once more. This time, he leaped high into the air, higher than before, his energy blade glowing brighter than ever. With a roar of determination, he brought the blade down on the golem's head, slicing through the stone and leaving a deep, glowing wound.

Mordros staggered, its body shaking violently as it began to fall apart. Its fiery eyes dimmed, and the molten cracks in its body flickered and faded. Yuta, now fully focused on the core, unleashed a powerful burst of energy directly into it.

The core shattered with a brilliant flash of light, and Mordros let out one final roar before crumbling to the ground in a pile of lifeless rubble.

Kai landed beside Yuta, breathing heavily but with a small smile on his face. "That was... intense."

Yuta chuckled, wiping the sweat from his brow. "And that was just level one."

Kai shook his head in disbelief. "I can't imagine what the other levels are like."

Yuta placed a hand on his shoulder, his expression serious once more. "Each level gets harder, but so do we. If we want to save your brother and face whatever's coming, we need to keep pushing ourselves. This is just the beginning."

Kai nodded, determination burning in his eyes. "Then let's keep going."

With the first level behind them, they both knew that the path ahead would be filled with even greater challenges. But for the sake of those they cared about, they were ready to face whatever came next.
