Qin Hai was momentarily speechless.
Director Cheng continued, "Logically, as long-time partners, I should lend you a hand and continue our collaboration. But I'm powerless here. The board is against it, and I have no say in the matter."
His words clearly indicated that he wouldn't be helping Qin Hai any longer.
Qin Hai's grip tightened around his phone, tempted to hang up in frustration. Yet he knew that if he severed this call, he would lose any chance of working with the Cheng Corporation again.
Rage filled his eyes, but he kept his tone ingratiating, hoping to persuade Director Cheng.
No matter how he tried, Cheng remained unmoved.
Exasperated, Qin Hai dropped the pretense, "Director Cheng, let's not beat around the bush. Your refusal to cooperate has nothing to do with our company's current situation or your board's decision."
Director Cheng raised his eyebrows, neither agreeing nor denying.
