Pei Guang lowered his voice to a near whisper, audible only to March 7th.
The footsteps grew louder, and both Pei Guang and March 7th were on edge. One feared being discovered while the other… also feared being discovered!
To ease the tension, March 7th whispered, "Who is making those footsteps?"
Pei Guang pondered, "It's the evil spirit of this hotel!"
"!!!"
Feeling that March 7th was fully engaged, Pei Guang's imagination ran wild. "It's the vengeful spirit that died here: it lurks in filthy, narrow corners, preying on solitary, innocent outsiders. Listen! It's searching for its prey."
However, the footsteps did not stop at the door of the room because the door was wide open. Yes, March 7th had carelessly left the door ajar. The open door was a potential invitation for trouble: had she closed it, it would have been difficult to explain if Dan Heng or Stelle had arrived.
Who would have thought that this open door would become a harbinger of doom?
Her heartbeat raced, while Pei Guang remained calm. As a gamer, being caught hiding in a wardrobe wasn't new to him. In such a free world, he decided to pull out his weapon and fight! Fight! Fight!
If avoidance wasn't an option, then he would battle the evil spirit to the last moment. As a gamer, if he had no weapon, he would run in fear. But with a wooden sword in hand, a sword with infinite durability and some attack power after enhancement, he felt somewhat prepared.
Though it wasn't a Peach Wood sword, he believed that this battle-worn wooden sword could definitely harm monsters and spirits.
The door to the room was closed, and the service staff did not enter. Both of them sighed in relief, but soon after, they heard the staff knocking and inquiring, "Is anyone there?"
At that moment, Pei Guang explained, "Demons and evil spirits disguise themselves as staff to lure people into opening the door and then consume them."
March 7th also got into character and moved closer to Pei Guang. "What should we do?"
Pei Guang's tone was serious. "My heart is now stronger than the most solid wall. I am ready. When the evil spirit arrives, I will distract it, and you escape! Find Stelle and Dan Heng. In a world of horror, never split up if you can team up. Do not split up more than necessary!"
"What about you?"
Pei Guang smiled. Although the darkness obscured his smile, March 7th could feel it.
He said, "What does death matter? As a gamer, even if I die and have to say goodbye to this world, I must do what a player should do!"
For gamers, if they have fewer lives, they play cautiously; if they have more lives, they play recklessly. Would a player let their favorite character die or let something they dislike happen? If so, they might as well not play the game.
Feeling Pei Guang's resolute determination, March 7th grabbed his hand. "Let's face it together!"
Pei Guang replied, "No! Such a strange enemy must have a special method to deal with it. I will hold it off; you go join your teammates. Look for the key to solving this!"
March 7th responded, somewhat resolutely: "I… understand!"
As they were talking, they heard the staff member calling from the adjacent room, "If no one is here, I'm coming in!"
Pei Guang groaned in frustration. "Damn it! It's my incompetence that has led to the harm of innocent NPCs! Rest in peace: I will avenge you."
Meanwhile, in the adjacent room, the staff member opened the door and walked in. It was Stelle's room, but she was not there at the moment. As the staff member entered, Stelle suddenly burst out from the wardrobe with a baseball bat, shouting, "Demon! Face the judgment of justice!"
"Ah!! A ghost! A ghost!!! There's a ghost!!!"
The staff member let out a tragic scream and instinctively fled from Stelle's room. In her panic, she opened the nearest door to hide, but unfortunately, she opened Pei Guang's room.
Hearing the staff member's screams and Stelle's reprimand, Pei Guang realized his teammate had encountered an enemy. He might betray NPCs, but not his teammates. At that moment, Pei Guang prepared for battle. He drew his wooden sword and kicked open the wardrobe door.
"Where's the ghost? Where's the ghost? Miss, don't be afraid! We'll face the evil spirit together!"
Looking up, the servant's eyes widened even further. "A ghost!!!"
This time, she completely passed out. Watching the unconscious servant, Pei Guang gripped the wooden sword. "Don't be afraid: I will vanquish the evil spirit for you. Evil spirit! Come and meet your fate!"
Pei Guang opened the door and stepped out, wooden sword in hand. As he exited, he encountered the fierce-looking Stelle.
Stelle anxiously asked, "Pei Guang? Did you run into a demon?"
Pei Guang replied, "No! I encountered an evil spirit! The evil spirit harmed someone, and they fainted."
Stelle pondered, "It seems like this place has some nasty stuff. How about we pair up and sleep together tonight? We could be a pair?"
"?"
Inside the room, March 7th had a big question mark over her head: while others reveal their intentions subtly, Stelle was just throwing it out there like a dagger.
Pei Guang thought for a moment. "No need! I believe that if we show our strength, the evil spirits here will fear us. I have a weapon, I'm not afraid of any demons or monsters!"
Just then, a strange sound came from the end of the hallway.
He instinctively looked toward the end of the corridor, and when Stelle saw where he was looking, she too turned her gaze to the hallway's end.
At the end of the corridor, two little girls were holding hands, staring at them. At that moment, both Pei Guang and Stelle felt a chill run down their spines. It seemed like they could see blood flowing toward them from the end of the hallway.
Curious about what the ghost looked like, March 7th also peeked out.
"GHOSTS!" x3
At this point, March 7th also stepped out to see what was happening, only to be greeted by the sight of the two eerie twin girls and the sea of blood rushing toward them.
Without any hesitation, Stelle quickly jumped back into the closet. Pei Guang returned to the room, threw the servant onto the bed, covered her completely with a blanket, and then pulled March 7th into the closet as well.
"What was that? So terrifying."
Pei Guang shivered. "I didn't expect this game to be so nasty. Do you know what that was? Shining! The Shining!"
March 7th asked, "The Shining? What's that?"
Pei Guang began explaining what The Shining was. Though there were no visuals, after hearing the description, March 7th also felt a chill run down her spine.
A few minutes later, Dan Heng arrived, having heard the commotion. Seeing the unconscious servant on the bed, he cautiously drew his spear. Sensing something odd from the closet, he aimed his spear at it and carefully opened the closet door.
The ensuing chaos left Dan Heng with a headache as he looked at the three before him.
Stelle and Pei Guang were understandable, but how could March 7th also believe in this stuff? The problem was that they really seemed to have been scared by Pei Guang and Stelle's experiences and stories.
He could only sigh in exasperation…
