Still reeling from what Elliott had just told me, I replied, "Karen and I haven't been on good terms lately. She barely spends time here. How could I have known?"
Elliott studied me for a moment before speaking. "You two clearly don't love each other. If I'm being honest, you never did. The only time you even looked at her tonight was when my idiot brother made that misogynistic comment. Karen might feel something, but you? You don't."
I sighed. "You're implying that I hate your sister, but that's not true."
"If you don't hate her, then maybe it's time you let her go," Elliott said, his voice firm.
I ran a hand through my hair. "That's easier said than done, and you know it."
He shrugged. "I've said my piece. The rest is up to you. I'm heading home now—let's keep in touch." We shook hands, and he walked away, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
