Chapter 34 - BLOOD MOON FOREST

This class is so boring, what is this literature? I know it's important but this is so boring, what's with the amount of metaphors in this. Daniela yawned, her eyes almost closing with each word.

"And that is what Louise talks about in his book, now any questions?" the teacher walked around with an open book in his hands.

"No sir," one of the children answered.

"Alright, class dismissed," the professor walked out of the classroom.

"System window," Daniela said, the screen flaring up the next second.

Map, she taps on the option, let's go find something hidden, shall we?

"How does a Vördr work?" Jack asked with intent eyes.

Nichole thought for a moment before replying, "There are multiple wires and cores through which energy flows to give life to the device."

"Well, a source code is not that different either," Jack extended his hand, a small grey circle with multiple intricate codes shimmering. "A source code is but the wirings, bringing a function or as we call a spell to life."

"So our body is a medium for energy and the source code is the one that does everything?"

"Not quite. The body is more than a medium, it is a regulator, a limiter or even a controller, and mana is the energy required to bring life to a..." Jack paused looking at Nichole with expectant eyes.

Nichole catches on Jack's intention and continues, "Spell. Now I understand, the body is the wiring through which the mana flows, the brain is the processor, and the source code is the output device."

"Exactly, just like how the hologram screen works as an output device for the Vördr, the source code is our output device," the source code on Jack's palm releasing a chill before disappearing.

"Are the source codes for each spell different?"

"The base code is the same, no matter what spell, except for a few special cases, and the codes are always ingrained in us, we just have to activate it."

"I don't have to create one from scratch?"

"No. The source codes are in us, and every time we use a spell, the code forms on its own, but that doesn't mean we can just whip out spells."

"If that's the case, I should be able to form a source code right now, is that what you meant by that professor?"

"Yep, so let's do it."

"Right now?" Nichole gasped in surprise, "but I'm not sure if the basics and uh—"

Jack places his hands on her head, his long fingers covering her crown, "Just feel it and go with the flow."

She did not speak anything, but decided to trust her mentor, after all he has been helping her for some time.

"Now, let you mana gather, and I'll guide it out for you, but don't lose the feeling."

She nodded as a response, The mana is all gathering in my brain, and his cool energy, it's guiding mine.

"Repeat after me, I follow the will of the universe," Jack said.

"I follow the will of the universe."

"I wish to change the rules, not abide by it."

"I wish to change the rules, not abide by it," Nichole repeated, I can see it, the mana is forming words and patterns.

"We stand between the laws and principles," Jack continued.

Nichole took in a deep breath without breaking the rhythm, "We stand between the laws and principles."

"That is the path I have chosen, and I do not regret it, for it is who I am."

"That is the path I have chosen, and I do not regret it, for it is who I am."

"Push out the mana and the image that formed in your mind," Jack took off his hand.

A small circle appears atop her hand, its blue colour shimmering bright for its size.

"Congratulations," Jack clapped, "you have formed a source code. Now maybe try to your flames, think of it and manifest it into the source code."

"I will," Nichole closed her eyes trying to feel the element. She sees a small orange ember burn, the flame weak, yet it burned bright in the darkness.

The source began glowing orange, a faint flame gathering around her palm forming a fireball.

"Wow, that's great Nichole, ma—"

BOOM

The fireball launched off her hand crashing into the wall and exploding. The walls burned as the bricks fell apart, black smoke raising.

Jack acts fast, forming a spell, cold energy gathered around his hand forming into a ball. He flicks his palms and it shoots off crashing into the smoke putting off the fire and freezing the rest of the burn scars.

Nichole unaware of the troubles outside, opens her eyes to tell Jack of the feeling but is stunned to see the damage.

"Uh, professor what happened?" she asked, her voice dropping.

"Don't worry, it's nothing," Jack chuckled awkwardly, "it's just a beginner problem, don't worry too much about it."

"Is it alright? Won't it be trouble?"

"It's alright, besides I'm sure the principal is willing to let it go."

"Why?"

"Let's just say she needs me, so why don't we take this somewhere else?"

"Uhh, what is this? Why are there so many monster corpses here?" Daniela looked at the fallen monster carcasses, either rotting flesh or bones.

I know I entered the Blood Moon forest but this is a bit too much isn't it, there are way too dead many monsters here.'

The Blood Moon forest, a part of the campus on its eastern side. The forest was a large area spanning over acres, home to many creatures, but along with life naturally came predators.

"And this smell, uhh, honestly why is this thing hidden in the forest?" she grumbled while walking through the thick trees, a small path formed naturally, where no grass grew.

She looked at the map shimmering in front of her, a red dot stood out on the map, it was her location.

FLICK

"What was that?" she flinched at the sound, turning back to see a large rat roughly the size of a dog, it's red eyes looking at her, barring its fangs.

Daniela flicked at her map, it vanishing at her gesture, as she prepared herself.

"Oh, time for some action," Daniela manifested a wand from her space ring, a small black wand. She held out her hand holding the wand, the wand growing to a four feet long staff.

The rat growled before jumping towards Daniela, but she side steps it to her left, the creature gaining its footing, staring at her intensely.

"Mana coalesce and amalgamate, embers of light," she pointed the staff at the creature, "Flame Bullet," a yellow ball of energy shot forward, but the creature dodges it and lunges forward.

"Mana coalesce and amalgamate, gust of dawn, Wind Bullet," another bullet shot forward, striking the rat blowing off its head, the blood spurting everywhere.

"You didn't think I was going to strike you without a plan did yo—, huh what's that smell?" she looked at where the flame bullet was launched, a small fire burning a tree.

"Shit, Mana coalesce and amalgamate, aqua stream, Water Stream Bullet," a larger bullet struck the tree, water erupting from the strike putting out the fire.

"With a wand I'm able to cut down incantations, and even control the release of mana," she looked at the staff in her hand returning to its wand from.

"But the staff form did drain my mana," she started walking, carefully avoiding the blood pool which had formed from the rat's headless corpse.

"I can't believe I killed it, but that should have made some sound, I should get out of here now."

She continued straight looking at the map in front of her, "Alright I should be close, just a few more metres and I should be there."

She continued walking straight, occasionally taking a few turns. While on route, she saw more of the earlier creatures tracks, and even screeches were heard.

"I'm almost there, if this keeps up I'll be able to get back to class before it begins."

After more walking and rustling through the leaves, she finally reached her destination.

"Ahh, finally."

"The girl you fought yesterday was pretty strong," Donatello asked Finn, "what was her name?"

"Aileen, and she was pretty good," Finn said, looking at Donatello with inconspicuous eyes.

"Hey, no need to look at me like that, it just seemed like I've seen her before."

"Well, she is the daughter of Count Seqia, she told me."

"Count Seqia, yes I know him, I've seen him once before," Donatello spoke as he two walked through the hallway, Professor Charla walking in the front.

BOOM

A loud sound echoed through the hallway, the children all looking at each other in panic.

"Hey, what was that?" Donatello asked Finn.

Finn looked at where the sound came from, the classroom to their left, "I'm not sure but it's from here."

The professor who was at the front came back to inspect the source of the sound, slightly knocking on the door.

The door opened and a red haired man stood there. Professor Charla looked, her eyes narrowing at him.

"Oh, it's the old man's class," Finn spoke out, his voice tinted with joy.

"Professor, what was that sound?" she asked while trying to look behind him, but his frame covered the door.

"Old man?" Donatello asked in confusion.

Jack chuckled awkwardly, "It's nothing, just some spell gone wrong, but it's alright, I'll report it to the headmaster."

"Yep, he's my teacher..." Finn paused, "sort of."

"About the duel, what do you think of it now, are you ready?" her voice was stern, yet it spoke in volumes of her desire, her desire, her thirst for battles.

Jack brought up his hands in a defensive position, "Hey, miss about that, why not discuss it later, maybe over a cup of tea, I'll be happy to—"

Charla cut in, "Lunch, meet me during lunch."

She walks off without saying anything else, leaving Jack standing there.

"Oh, and find me in the mess hall," she yelled out loud without looking back.

"Ok, oh, hey Finn," Jack spoke out as he noticed the black haired boy among the group of children.

Finn walked towards him, Donatello following behind him curious about the two.

"Aah, why are there so many traps?" Daniela rushed through a stone path as arrows shot from the walls on her side.

"All for that shitty potion," she cried out.
